IRL; I shipped on Tuesday, and the other side delayed until Thursday. I received notification that his beer was delivered prior to him even having sent his beer. When I told him he should have received his, he was surprised, cuz he didn't see it. After driving around the neighborhood and asking neighbors, he didn't see his beer. It was likely taken from his porch- bottom line, he doesn't have his beer, but it's not my fault. I was worried, since he hadn't yet shipped mine, thinking, oh shit, now he's not going to send mine. BUT a few hours after discovering his box is not in his hands, he sends me a tracking number! SO- long story short; is this standard? I did everything I needed to do to get his beer to him. Do I owe him any sort of replacement, or, would he have been justified in not completing his side of the trade?
Had a trade where the box went out for deliver but it was never delivered to my door, tracking kept saying "Out for delivery" for a couple days. The trader made it right and replaced the box. He file a claim with FedEx to get the $100 insurance money, doesn't make up for the box of Canitllon that was lost but it's better than nothing.
Unfortunately I think this one is still on you. You can file a claim with FedEx/UPS and see how that goes, if your trade partner is generous maybe he'd pay for shipping or something? Also, ship with signature required next time.
One thing that I'm not sure I made clear, which seems weird to me, the guy took my box to FedEx AFTER he found out that he didn't get his box. He didn't ask me if I still expected him to complete his side of the trade or anything like that. We were still in the middle of looking for his box and he sent mine. Doesn't that seem weird?
This was discussed at length several times including recently on this thread: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/tracking-shows-delivered-but-box-not-there.417069/ You're not going to get a 100% consensus, but for the most part, if the box is shown "delivered", most people agree (myself included) that your "technical" responsibility ends. However, your trade partner should try to call FedEx who can talk to the driver and see if they can figure out if the box was incorrectly delivered, wait a few days, and then you can file a claim to get some money back ($100) and figure out a way to compensate your trade partner IF the claim is successful. More often than not, they just delivered it to the incorrect address. If you don't get any money back, you can chose to send a consolation box, replace the entire box, or do nothing. Personally, I have it spelled out in my profile about signature requirement and ask new trade partners to review my profile before accepting to trade with me. I don't expect my trade partners to replace stolen boxes and I don't want to be responsible for things that are completely out of my hands after the box is delivered. I think your trade partner recognizes this and is doing the right thing sending his box out to you.
I couldn't agree more. I'll add on to this and say that considering he sent the box out after his went "missing" is really classy. If the missing box doesn't show up, definitely try to work out some sort of consolation package, you'll want to keep a relationship with the trader.
There is some risk in shipping and if it shows delivered I think you are in the clear. But as others have mentioned it would not hurt to send him a consolation box. Trading really should be about sharing and I think it would be a classy move on your part to send something back his way. In my own experience someone sent me a random box of kindness that Fedex claimed was delivered. However my security system did not show any drop offs for the day in question. The shipper @Alphateam who did not owe me anything in the first place resent a package my way. This act of generosity has made me want to send something back to the sender in the future and to keep an eye out for his wants. I have a feeling if you were to do the same for the OP you might be surprised how beer karma works.
@mxzebrax if you glance halfway down the first page of the trade help forum, you'll find a thread asking about a very similar situation. Give it a read: http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/tracking-shows-delivered-but-box-not-there.417069/
It would be difficult for me to find fault with the sender in an instance like this, and, sadly, I believe that people would take advantage of the situation if the community decided that the sender was at fault in these situations.
He saw the driver and asked him about. Driver said to call the 800 number to get help. 2 minutes later driver knocks on his door with the package. Apparently it was delivered a street over.
I once had a box that was marked delivered and the recipient said it wasn't there. After a couple of days the driver contacted him. The driver didn't think that anyone was home and didn't want to leave the box out. so the driver put it in the back seat of a car on the property. turned out the car didn't run and no one thought to look in there for a delivery. Glad your box showed up.
Glad everything worked out here... My two cents on the topic at hand though. There's a difference between completing your responsibility as a trader and doing everything you can to ensure a good experience for your trading partner. I get it that there's a chance of being scammed if the box says delivered and your partner says they didn't receive it but I think it's a shitty way to go through life thinking the worst of people here on BA (I'm NOT saying you were doing that OP). I truly believe you treat people the way you want to be treated and everything usually works out pretty well. If the situation was reversed, while you might not say your partner was responsible for replacing the missing box I'm sure you would feel pretty damn good if they did. Cheers!
