restauraunt beer menu

    I only read a little but if its tap, not bottles i'd say def go with some two-hearted. Forget it if you are only doing bottles, imo. A lot more hassle regulating quality and consistency.

    1--Allagash White or Avery White Rascal

    2--Coors, Bud, Miller (you need one of these, yes?)

    3-Go with a good pilsner or some other lager that is local and clean

    4- Porter, Brown Ale or Stout

    If you can sub out the Bud/Coors/Miller category then please for the love of god replace it with an American Pale Ale, India Pale Ale or Double IPA.

    Please stay away from Stella. Such a crutch on menus when there are so many more options...

    i would stay away from light domestics. It's a fine dining restaurant. you wouldn't serve cheap box wine, so why serve cheap light fizzy yellow lager.

    You say you are fine dining. If so, I would suggest keeping the macros down to a minimum. I would choose only one of the Peroni, Newcastle, Mich Ultra or Coors Light. Fine dining patrons usually "get" an upgraded beer list.

    When I design menus, I often pair the drinks with the entree. I liked many of the suggestions listed here in regards to pairing the food with a style of beer. I would choose the very best available beers in each of the styles that your distributor provides in each category (I'd even use BA ratings). This gives your servers a "story" of why each beer is selected.

    Personally, I don't think IPA pairs very well with a lot of foods. Look into Saisons,Wits, Dubbels, Tripels, Quads, Pilsner/Kolsch, English milds, and sours. As you rotate your menu seasonally, rotate your beer list to match.

    @sweetwhit, if you're looking to get some traction with the craft beer community, here are my suggestions for the craft-end of things...

    Duvel is a classy Belgian pale ale that will pair with most any course and it has a great reputation
    A quality stout along the lines of Old Rasputin also carries weight within the craft community and offers a nice dessert beer
    Craft beer drinkers love their IPAs and I would concur about Two Hearted as being accessible and recognizable. Alternates might include Flower Power or Sculpin.

    By the way west coast beers are better. haha
