I live in the DC area and have had some really good luck trading Sweet Baby Jesus. Not that it pulls whales or anything, but it has always consistently pulled interest in some smaller stuff. Recently Duclaw released Retribution, their bourbon barrel aged stout, and I'm just trying to gauge if it has trade value or not. It runs about $15 a bottle most places.
I still see bottles of the 2012 sitting around at places (i.e. State Line). They're not in demand and really don't move quick, but you could probably get some limited shelf stuff that's out of distribution.
I agree with you there, but sweet baby jesus is always available too and it pulls stuff in other distro areas. Therefore, I was thinking there might be some interest in it in other markets despite the fact that it's still pretty readily available around here.
I love Retribution. Let me know if there's any Texas brews that interest you. I'd be down for trading for a few bottles of this years batch.
Retribution is more under attenuated than Dark Lord. And I didn't think it was possible. It's a sweet mess that will give you instabeetus. And it may not even be the worst DuClaw beer :-/
I don't exactly agree with it being a sweet mess, but i have a 2012 and 13 bottle. I would say let is sit for a bit. It's definitely on the sweeter side, but I wouldn't label it a mess.
2012 Retribution was sweeter than any Southern Tier beer I have ever had. I sampled out of multiple bottles.
Damn, this is a tad disappointing, but then again, subjective. If your taste and mine are the same, then it's going to be super sweet. I'll give it 6 mo to a year before I open mine.
I drank a lot of the 2012, although on tap, and I didn't find it too overly sweet. Like you said, it's definitely subjective though.
