I am about to ship out a 12-pack styro shipper. The shipper came with a fitted box, which has previously been shipped. It is a little dinged up, but it is mostly in quite good shape. There are 2 FedEx labels on the box (I plan to ship FedEx this time, too), as well as a bunch of tape. There is also some writing in marker that came from FedEx.

Is it kosher to use this box again? If yes, then how should I deal with the tape and labels?

    Thanks for your help.

As long as the box is structurally sound enough to survive shipping then I would reuse it. Take a black sharpie to the old labels and any tracking numbers written on the box that could cause confusion. As far as the old tape goes just leave it and tape over it. I've received boxes that have been half black with sharpie and who knows how many old labels, but they were still strong so I reused them. All those boxes reached their recipients just fine (at least once it went back to a person who had sent the box to someone else first)

I would mark out any old info/labels that may confuse them in shipment and reuse it. Done it many times.

If you can take them off without removing the cardboard, I'd just take off any old labels that were attached to the box. Particularly if they have a barcode. If they don't come off, do what robinsmv/hanzo suggested with the marker.

at Fedex ask them for blank labels. Then you can place right over the old ones.

I peel off what labels I can without taking off layers of cardboard and use marker to make clear that the old labels are of no use. The costs of beer trading are high enough as is...and we all need to reuse all commercial goods that we can, so by all means...recycle boxes until they cannot any longer be recycled!

I have gotten stryo-shippers that BAs have signed as well. Kinda fun to see where all it has traveled.

this. peeling off labels always runs the risk of taking off cardboard & ruining the integrity of the box. ask the fedex employee to cover them with blank label stickers, easy fix. i always black them out with a marker first to remove any sort of confusion, cheers!

taping blank white paper over them would work as well.

Peel what you can and sharpie cross-out everything else. If I rip cardboard badly I usually just slap some packing tape over it.

All I use is old boxes... reduce, reuse, recycle.

I just cut a square out of a paper grocery bag to cover old labels. That way it's brown and matches the cardboard of the box.

I envisioned a white box. Don't know why

I like this idea a lot and will have to start using it. Hell, I may throw a copy of "Oh the Places You'll Go" in the side and have people sign that as well.

Thanks, everyone. It's packed and ready, to be sent off tomorrow!

P.S. You guys are right that picking out which beers/extras to send is a lot of fun.

I bought a shipper once, for the Secret Santa last year. I figured it was a gift that would keep giving....
