I posted a similar thread 3 years ago. I’m taking my family to hang in Revere, MA for a week. I know trillium nightshift and treehouse are good beers up that way. But it’s been a while since I was last on the beer scene. And I don’t want this to be about me and brew.

If I gave myself a day to acquire beers like Trillium, Treehouse (or whatever you advise), what and where would you recommend? And what day of the week is most advantageous?

You aren’t going to get Trillium or Treehouse beers for takeaway anywhere other than the breweries. Check their respective websites for hours of operation and beer availability. Both breweries also have dedicated threads in this forum. Check those out.

There's several breweries in the Everett / Chelsea / Malden / Medford area. Many of them are good choices. Also, if you go to South Boston, you can go to Trillium's home base, (they have a restaurant now, plus bottles / cans to go) or Fort Point Market, for a good selection of beers.
Other than that, my advice for going to Revere? Don't.:sunglasses:

Everett seems too easy with Nightshift. Trillium FP seems easy too but Treehouse looks too out the way.

But any other restaurants with good brew or stores for cans in Revere? ( I get the impression Revere is sort of like Fire Island)

I used to live in Revere. The city itself is a dead zone for good beer places, but it's a great access point to get to the many restaurant and brewery options in Boston and Cambridge

As you said, Night Shift in Everett is an easy drive, as is Mystic in Chelsea. A little further away (15-20 minutes drive outside of rush hour) is Malden, which has two great beer centric restaurants Hugh O'Neils and Mystic Station on the same street, and Idle Hands is walkable from there.

Mystic in Chelsea is worth a stop. Not the best space for a family outing though - smallish warehouse set-up, no windows, usually tons of dogs. It's very close to Chelsea Station which has a good tap list and excellent high-end pub grub.

A visit to Notch in Salem might be better for a family outing. Outdoor patio on the water, skeeball, and close to all of the major tourist attractions in Salem.

Not sure if you have kids and their ages, but the Boston Children's Museum in Boston is pretty great. It also has a nice bonus of being within walking distance of 1) Trillium Fort Point (bottles and cans to go -- can eat there as well if you want); 2) Fort Point Market (probably the best craft beer selection in Boston); and 3) Row 34 -- great seafood restaurant, awesome lobster roll.

Are they a little bit older and it's beautiful out? Fine. You have the New England Aquarium on the other side of the water, which is a pretty great aquarium. It happens to be right next to Trillium on the Greenway, an outdoor beer garden that's a little tamer earlier in the day and when it opens (had lunch with my three-year-old and one-year-old there this past Sunday). It's also where you can pick up boats to the Boston Harbor Islands, which can be a ton of fun (weather dependent). But you can't get Trillium to go at that location.

If the family is much older, those boats also go to the newly opened Encore Casino... That's about a five minute Uber ride away from Night Shift too as people have mentioned.

Days of the week don't really matter for Trillium unless there's a special release. If you want to come to downtown Boston, I highly suggest Sunday. Meters are off and free parking is plentiful in the Financial District, where no one works on weekends...

I haven't been to Revere beach in a long time so I don't know what its like today. Its had its ups and downs over the years. When I was a kid it wasn't bad, when my parents were kids it was great, but last time I was there it was generally a place to avoid. The same can be said for a lot of the surrounding areas like Everett and Chelsea which now are starting to become pretty nice. Anyhow hopefully its nice now.

If you are bringing kids be sure to check each breweries websites for their policy on kids. NightShift in Everett used to only allow kids before a certain time on weekdays and only infants I think at night and on weekends. Their brewpub in Boston at Lovejoy however does allow kids.

I'm presuming you are looking for places that make good IPA's since you mentioned both TreeHouse and Trillium. Lamplighter isn't too far and they make some great beer. Assembly Row is a good place to take family, Somerville Brewery has a restaurant there, personally their beer is so-so but worth it if you take the family shopping. You are probably a 30 minute drive from Redstone Liquors in Stoneham which is one of the better places to buy craft beer in MA.

Personally if I was going to take a day to dedicate to beer I'd drive up to Redstone Liquors early and grab some beer. Drive back down and stop at Idle Hands Brewery (though you might need to skip this or go later since they usually open later). Go to Night Shift, Mystic Brewery, then to Lamplighter and then to Trillium in Boston. You could add a few other stops like Aeronaut or Down The Road. One local brewery I'd recommend grabbing some beers from at someplace like Redstone if they are available is Exhibit-A, they make some great beers. If you are driving from New York to Revere you could stop by in Framingham where their brewery is as well as stop by Jack's Abby where you could bring the family for lunch.

Thanks for all that info. Spent the last 2 days in Boston and hit Saus near Faneuil. I just got my family in bed then blasted over to Idlehands and Nightshift as they had late hours.

Checking out Redstone and Lamplighter now. Still haven’t decided on treehouse yet but seems like even at openings there are lines so may skip this time and enjoy Trillium!

Treehouse would be a major pain in the ass if you didn’t have a solid day to head out there and make it worth your while (maybe with a Worcester stop too)

You won’t be lacking for good beer where you have lined up anyway.

If you're going to Redstone check out Rapid Liquors, about .5 miles south of Redstone. Prices are roughly 20% cheaper. They might not have the same inventory but they've got a pretty nice selection.

Ha - unabashed Allagash fan boy here, but beware the brewery black hole that is Portland - you can spend an entire day there visiting breweries, plus everything in between Boston and Portland...

Seriously, we were at Allagash two weeks ago - wasn't their best tap list but wasn't the worst, either. There's also Austin Street, Foundation, and at least one more that escapes my memory right across the street.
