To the OP: It seems like you are looking for validation of your opinion about the article, not a discussion as to whether the article is "right" or "wrong".
Drink what you like and never apologize.

Why? He was off by only a few years, but early to mid 90's, the US had around 500 breweries. Today that number is over 3,000. I don't think he said, or inferred that pre-99 was solely BCM, but it certainly wasn't a "big thing".

You realize there was a whole "craft bubble" in the early 1990's? It was a big thing. Trust me, my first GABF was in 1994 and it was big.

You are now the third or fourth person in this thread that's mentioned that tired, overused, trite, cliche "there's a time and place for every beer". I wish there was a rule that anyone who posted it would be immediatly banned from BA for a month. Please, PLEASE, stop!!

I'm proud to be a snob, I'd quit drinking altogether before buying Coors or Bud as an everyday beer.

Good for you. I enjoy having a Coors once in a while. Or a Hamm's if I can get it.

Last Sunday I went to pickup a sixer of Sculpin and as I grabbed it out of the cold box I noticed they had 18pks of Rolling Rock cans. Spent the whole day sitting in the sun, putting away can after can of Rolling Rock. It was quite an enjoyable experience and I saved a few bucks. To each their own.

its just a word... "offended." it goes only as far as it takes it. when i really get offended over something in life, i usually get irate, verbal and sometimes violent. but in this case, my simple response was just to make a thread, and gauge others' reactions.

"offended" is just a word. take it easy. and yes, people like him. people who like to wrongfully judge other people for no reason. you seriously doubt what? you dont think in certain situations he'd scoff you or that he wouldnt offend you? i'm not sure where your stance is. you kinda just shout things out and ask questions without explaining why. how exactly do you want me to respond?

It really doesn't. there's way too much flash judging going on and not enough paying attention to text. I didn't say what the article was, nor what my opinion on the article was. The quote was not the article... rather an anonymous person's comment in the said article, looking down upon beer geeks for no apparent reason. The article itself was a actually a good one about underrated canned beers. What does right or wrong have to do with that? Third time I've posted this in this thread now, but here goes again:

I wanted to gauge the community's general response and have a mature topic of conversation, potentially a good one. Instead, half the people wanted to play this weird game where my thread was the center of my stance on one side of the fence. I also asked, "Is this the norm?" My answer is now yes. Apparently its live and let live to anyone who prefers drinking shit beers, but for those who opt to go the cheaper route (in taste and price), it's considered kosher to put others down. Not sure how one is okay and the other isn't. But please, can you and others stop spot saying the same crap over and over again? You guys didn't even read the whole thread, all my replies, my OP, know wtf article I was referring to, or even know what my stance is (despite my continued affirmations).

I used to drink big name lagers all the time. They were great for after yard work or to pound during drinking games with my pals. These days, i prefer a beer I can sit back and sip for a while. I have no real hatred of big name lagers and could care less about other people drinking them, but I've personally outgrown them. I would never refuse one if offered. If I ever get back into a group that likes playing drinking games, I wouldn't do it with a stout, I'd probably pick up a 30 of Bud.... I guess I'd have to go with the "various beers having their place" route, albeit a place dependant upon the tastes of the individual.

We are on a site called " Beer Advocate" I would expect " beer snobs", "beer geeks" and alike to be posting here. I personally consider my self a " beer snob" but I am heads up enough to warn people ahead of time, and it makes it a little laughable and fun, they understand I am self-aware and not just being an a**! I think a " regular beer" drinker coming on to this site or any other should have a good idea of who will be posting, people passionate about craft and who want to talk about it. I have friends who drink Coors light and think my Lags etc. tastes like sink water lol. I don't get upset.
