I can't help but notice some fellow Beer Advocates reviewing beers based on past experiences. For example why would someone harshly rate Brown Ale (a) because it doesn't taste like Brown Ale (b)? I am curious how beers would be rated if everyone used the BJCP when reviewing. I just don't think it's "fair" to compare when rating/reviewing. Rate based on how they're supposed to, not on what you've had.

    Go drink some beers!

While we encourage members to take style into consideration, ultimately this is a consumer based website; not a homebrew based website w/ blind certified judging in a controlled environment. As such, subjectivity is to be expected from some members for various reasons; including numerous real world factors that may impact their experience.
