Just wondering if many of you still decide to post a review or rate your newly sampled beers if they are old or have a moral obligation to skip that altogether for the greater good of the brewer and other reviewers? Honestly, I review and tick beers mostly from my own memory and use this site as a database of beers that I like and don't like. I'm sure that is a popular opinion as well. Educating others and compiling into the average stats are my secondary reasoning (sorry if that is selfish but that's my truth about it). I'm thinking perhaps to write a short review and note that it was 6 month's beyond the "best before" for a Pale Ale and hopefully get a chance to revisit it someday. It's rated as an excellent/world class PA by the way, and other beers I've had by this brewer (one that is distributed out of my state) I've thought were excellent. I don't know if I'm doing a big disservice though by bringing down the average rating on an old beer that probably was the distributor or store owners fault?

It's been said by someone (sorry I forgot who you are) that you shouldn't rate/review a beer that is too old unless there is no bottled on/best by date on the bottle. This would be my rule of thumb if I was rating/reviewing a beer.

If old bottles are endemic to your area of a particular beer, at some point the brewer has to take responsibility for that.

From a previous thread, Double Jack seems like it's almost always out of code for many on the East Coast. If it really is a persistent problem FW needs to address it by lowering the price, changing the packaging format, making it seasonal, or something else to ensure a better turnover. If they do nothing, the beers' rating should drop accordingly IMO.

I won't rate/review a beer if I know it's old. If it's old, I usually will not buy it. If I taste a beer for the first time and it taste bad, I won't review but try it again, if its bad, its bad.
