No I haven't found anything yet except the pros and cons and timings of when to aerate the wort. (Nor do I expect to since ABI has not funded that research on beers after packaging yet.)

Show me the data is always a good mantra. I was suggesting that the advocates of the claims should be able to provide that data or pointers to that data when we are unable to find it. If they are unable to do so (say because it doesn't exist) the claim becomes of questionable value.

Harsh hoppy alcoholic IPA/DIPA are generally great for slugging from the can. But an aromatic beer with nuance...a glass is nice, and I really don't give a damn what kind of glass it is...carbonated bubbles shoving aromatic volatile hop oils up ny nose is all that matters.

Unfortunately I don't, it's all speculation on my part (and common sense). I too would like to see some papers on this though, I searched a bit earlier, but I didn't come up with much.

I'll keep this thread posted if I find anything useful.

Until then, drink beer (from a can or a glass or a boot).

This, exactly. I have had the NE IPAs both ways and have enjoyed them. I never considered oxidation and a thing I could taste after having just opening a beer. If it sat in the glass for a period of time sure but not right away or within 20 minutes or so.

I have never had Heady before :grimacing: (which I know will make some skip right over my response), but I am obviously a fan of proper glassware . I'm sorry, but Guinness Draught says "Drink straight from the bottle" and would any of us in our right mind do that?! If I ever get Heady, I for one will not be drinking it straight from the can.

Can, bottle, or glass...it's all up to the consumer, but I believe you don't get the true experience of any beer by removing any one sense, let alone two in the case of straight from the can!

    Cheers!

My totally unsubstantiated theory is that Jon may have thought the can was preferable to drinking from crappy Shaker pint glasses. He also wants Heady Topper to be an "every man" beer, and requiring some fancy tulip glass really doesn't play to the flannel and boots crowd. Now it's a thing and I doubt he'd revisit his position, but the beer is unquestionably better when poured into a proper glass. It's not even close.

I have and both were very good. Someone should decant a can into a beaker, let it rest a tiny bit, then pour it back into the can......it'll still be very good.

Well, just try it someday and see what you think. I've done side by sides with Heady and the can wins every time. As mentioned earlier, I've also done it with Focal Banger (also says drink from the can) and I find the opposite to be true, it's better poured into a glass. For Heady, the glass pour mellows the bitterness a bit which seems to take away from the beer whereas with Focal Banger, the mellowing helps it (I find Citra/Mosiac combo to be improved by slight mellowing of their bitter finish).

It seems, at the end of the day drink it how you like it best, but be open to rethinking past "truths" as well.
