I really like replies in the ISO:FT forum, and I think these changes would make it possible to have replies, with a lot less of the mess that they sometimes create.

    The no-bump would be fantastic.

I think the proposed changes are the perfect next step. If that doesn't solve the problem in a way that makes everybody happy, I think it gets very close to it. Any remaining loopholes/issues should be minor and can be re-analyzed down the road.

Update: The new thread quota add-on is bugged, so that might not be implemented initially; it might not be essential if all of the other items are in place anyway.

This is a must. Bumping was abused by way too many people.

This would be nice. Surprisingly, this wasn't abused by too many people after replies were removed, but it was still noticeable.

I don't have a problem with new people posting trade threads, especially if there's a limit as mentioned above. The main reason I like this is that it could get new people to participate a bit more outside of the trading forums.

There's an awful lot of gray area when it comes to moderating replies to ISO:FT (threadshitting vs helpful info). Personally, I got tired of seeing veterans tell people that certain trades are impossible.

Is this where you don't delete a post, but there is a visible message from a moderator? Most people don't read every thread. But it's worth a shot.

    Can't do any harm.

The thread you created asking people what would go on this sticky was a bit :grimacing:. A lot of people trying to get new traders to trade with the same rules they use, rather than just focusing on the nuts and bolts of good communication, being cautious of who you're trading with, and safely packing a box. Do you have any concern of being responsible for a 'how-to' that deals partially with shipping beer, or are you and Jason comfortable as long as $ isn't changing hands?

All of the stuff listed is great, it would dramatically improve the trading experience.

Also my suggestion would be that the time period to post in the ISO:FT forum should be 3 months. That will give someone enough time to lurk around and learn the ropes a bit.

    Cheers,

Agreed with ALL, not just some, of the stuff above. Not bumping with replies is key.

Thanks for listening to the feedback. I know threadshitting gets out of control sometimes, but honestly it's also what used to make me look at the ISO:FT page 10 times a day. I think it drives traffic, which in the end is a good thing for everyone IMO. Cheers!

I think allowing replies in the iso/ft will reduce the # of "so whats it gonna take" posts.
I like the idea of comments not bumping threads

replies not bumping threads is *AWESOME*, that way people have to actively seek out trades, and attention seekers won't be able to act out to bump the threads up and get more attention that they so desperately crave.

I like the idea of public warnings, too. But I think that it needs to be used in extreme cases only, and I think the good-natured fun of trading forms of yore was a HUGE draw and the fact that that's gone is what has left many many old-school people to abandon BA as a trading tool.

Any idea when this will get implemented?

Update: I spoke with Jason today, who's been vehemently against allowing replies again; more than me. Looks like we're definitely leaning towards implementing this, but there's a few other options I'd like to checkout first. More to follow ...

In the meantime, please keep the feedback flowing. We're listening.

Will this apply to both the sorting within the ISO:FT forum as well as with the "What's New?" list? I prefer to use the "What's New?" listing versus perusing each individual forum, but if this doesn't keep ISO:FT replies out of "What's New?", then it has little value to me.

No, as the What's New list is not a forum. I can remove ISO:FT posts from being displayed in What's New though; something we've been considering.

I'd prefer they stay, personally. Is that the kind of thing that could be made into a per-user option? (EDIT: This is beyond the scope of this discussion, at least a bit, but it'd be nice if "What's New" reflected forum subscriptions the way the front page used to. There's no particular point in stuff from the New England forum showing up on my What's New, for instance.)

I actually like this option a lot. ISO:FT threads in general contain little information of value, so I personally have no interest in reading them, unless I'm looking for a specific beer.

    EDIT:

This would solve my problem. I would love it if I could customize the what's new listing.

This has been brought up before. Until there's a way for users to subscribe to/only view forums, we're stuck with what we have.

In favor of all the proposed changes.

Another useful tool would be a tutorial for new traders that not only explains the ins and outs of trading, but also what consitutes a "thread shit." Something as simple as the following:

Facts about the beers in question = Good
Opinions on whether the trade should happen = Bad

It's the information that came up in the replies that was useful, not people bombing trade posts while trying to protect the value of their hoard.

    Thanks for listening fellas,
    Jeff

I think the proposed changes are great and I appreciate the bros. listening to and trying to respond to the community. For my part, I really liked the replies and I didn't even think the threadshitting was as bad as some folks found it. I'm not in favor of personal attacks, but I found it educational - and ofter entertaining - to point out when a proposed trade is unbalanced.

I don't think you have to make it too complicated to keep noobs from getting in trouble with trades. I think a 'waiting period' of 1-3 months after joining would address a lot of it and some of it you just can't avoid.

I am in agreement with all of the above items. I think it will also make the site more enjoyable again, too. I used to love browsing the old forum.

Yeah, I suppose I was asking if such an add-on existed, or if you could (whenever there's time) look into finding one. I figured if that were baked in then we'd already have it, since it was a preexisting feature that's now gone.
