I like the proposed changes. I know sometimes BA gets slammed for having tight banning rules, however, I feel it is appropriate in the ISO:FT realm.

Also, would it be possible that when post is deleted by a moderator, instead of the entire post being deleted, it is instead replaced with red italics stating the comment has been deleted. That way it is almost a public notifications that the offender has violated the terms. This would help identify to the regular users which people have a tendency to threadshit.

100 Day waiting period for trading.

It forces all the rail birds to ante up and create a profile and get in the game sooner (Interacting). It'll hopefully cut down most of the ridiculous ISO:FT, not that I think those get done anyways. Trading is fun, but should be approached with a bit more respect towards others, maybe the waiting period will help install that in new folks.

Ok, 100 days might be a bit much. But for sure over 30 days. 50-60?

30 days seems good enough to me, honestly. I don't want anyone to feel frozen out.

I mean look, 60 days vs 30 days will prob. have the same effect for MOST new users. There's no guarantee that after 30 or 60 they'll have any better idea, but at least it cuts down on insta-troll accounts.

Agreed with all this. 30 is perfect.

as far as i'm concerned, this goes 90% of the way toward solving all problems.

    the other 10% is:

    1) reasonably clear definition of threadshitting (if the community even frowns upon threadshitting in no-bump world),

    2) punishing users for over-reporting in ISO:FT. in other words, something must be in place to prevent the need for too much moderation.

that said, even without (1) and (2), no reply and limited ISO:FTs per week is great IMO. the armchair quarterbacks can scan for most-view threads with tons of replies, and the normal people can surf on by with nothing (or almost nothing) to complain about.

In general I like the proposed changes. As a relative newcomer myself I don't know if the waiting period on posting in the trading forum is really accomplishing everything people are hoping it will. Yes it will stop people from posting stupid trades that will never happen, but it doesn't actually stop people from any trading because they can just respond to other people's ISOs. I've done three trades and haven't posted an ISO yet.

I'm not sure whether that actually is a pro or a con for the waiting period (so why am I posting?). People who are uninformed can still get in trouble even with a waiting period, so the benefits aren't quite as big as people are making it out to be, on the other hand people can still trade even with the waiting period (and through the somewhat cleaner, easier method of responding to someone else) so they shouldn't feel frozen out and therefore what's the harm of having one?

First off, I hated the beer karma system of the old site when I was a new trader. People like to trade, but not always post. Everything else sounds good, and I 100% support replies returning with the addition of a couple mods.

I'm glad you mentioned it. I kind of didn't like it because it prevented me from doing certain things -- which might have been a good thing -- but I also thought it was amusing. I might also be a bit upset I was never a Grand Poobah...

The only thing it could have ever prevented you from doing was post in the trade forum, and only for a short time before the old site went down. Plus it was a very minimal requirement.

I still feel like that was a good idea - force some amount of participation/site contribution to allow access to the most contentious and potentially damaging realm of the site. I know some people dislike posting, but how long does it take to complete a minimal profile and add a place review (seriously, way underused part of the site and imo one of the most useful sections) or a couple of reviews?

Buuut, since it seems like so many traders use the site for that purpose and that purpose only, I can see why this didn't stick around. My main point is that karma has potential functional uses down the road, as in my earlier comment where I propose that it be used to show who is in the red (negative) for site disruption/warnings.

Yeah, I do agree that beyond this there was little true value to karma points - but some people like that indication of their involvement. Just look at the success of Untapped. A large base of users want rewards and the tracking of achievements and milestones. So long as I don't need 3000 reviews to access all areas of the site I'm fine with letting those types of "badges" exist. They certainly aren't doing any harm.
