So, first can of this years Deth’s Tar, and I gotta say, wow. Delicious. Great work Rev team!

I was mentioning this to future babysitter @flat_lander earlier today: I have not really seen much said about DT, except in comparison to other rev beers, and nothing in comparison to past DT releases OR to BC, which is sort of the Chicago standard.

Anyone have any thoughts? @flat_lander was too busy drinking cafe to help a brother out.

Drinking another DT right now. It does have more layers of complexity than prior years - I primarily pick up dark chocolate, vanilla, and even some oak. The oak is a nice surprise, since I don't tend to perceive that in too many barrel aged stouts (probably attributable to the older barrels blended in). Very little "heat" - this is ready to be enjoyed now. As specifically compared to BCBS, it's still not as chewy and sweet. But that's perfectly fine by me, I'll be grabbing one more (who am I kidding, more than one) 4-pack.

My wife hates you right now.

This is pretty consistent with my can tonight. It's very good. It has a complexity that I don't recall from the last few years. Definitely that tingly oak from the barrels happening.

I do find the cans to be less sweet than the excellent draft Deth Cafe pours, on point with flavor, texture, and complexity I had on preview night. I like the cans slightly better, can't go wrong with either draft or can.

Would say 2019 Revolution Cafe Deth is on par / slightly below the first BCS coffee I had in 2012. Have three cans left, hope the kegs live on at Revolution over the next few months!

Looking forward to the November release, sadly will be in Vegas for the December release.

Cracked a Café for some early Blackhawks action. Must say, it's as good as advertised.

Since I've complained a couple times in the past, I feel compelled to report that the Deep Woods series has made it's return to Rev's second city, Cincinnati. We received Deth and Cafe Deth at my local store on Tuesday and, man, they are both incredible beers! Kudos to everyone who makes this beer possible; thank you. Here's to a continuing loving relationship between Cincy (Cavalier Dist.) and Chi-town (Revolution). :beers:

Where in cincy? I have moved back, and I have had a tough time finding anything near me. Rural Indiana seems to have more stores with craft than Cincinnati when I just go into someplace (grocery or otherwise) on the random.

Since you asked about this, I decided to break out a vertical of the last three years' canned Deth's Tar releases. Oxidation notwithstanding, this year's vintage is clearly superior to my particular palate. The oats this year are doing work, producing an excellent sweetness, giving the impression of chocolate that works well with the biggest barrel-oak out of any of the five vintages I've been able to try. The 2017 has more sharp, ethyl alcohol notes that detract a bit from the other flavors, the 2018 is an improvement in technical quality over that, but this year's batch is simply bursting with more flavors than what I could ascribe merely to freshness.

Deth's Tar is still not as sweet or as thick/syrupy as BCBS, which I know you're a big fan of, but personally I prefer it. For anyone interested in a basic BBA stout without other flavor additives, I still say that Deth's Tar and Wild Onion's Drago are the best around, and conveniently they're both from Chicago.

Had my first 2019 last night - definitely agree with this statement. Balance is ridiculous for a coffee stout. If I did a blind tasting I might not identify it as a coffee stout - it's that balanced - unlike Underground Mountain Brown where you can pick out the coffee.

Drinking a Deth by Plums now - balance is great, not that sweet. Reminds me of something in the BCBS family, and I say that as in a good way. Not cheap though.

I had Cafe Deth on tap at one of the preview parties on the 17th and it was incredible. The coffee aroma and taste were so strong and I loved it. Fast forward a week and I bought a 4 pack of it and was more than a little disappointed that the cans didn't have the same intense aroma or taste as it did on tap. Is this normal? Does the coffee taste fade that quickly? Did anyone else notice this? Just wondering.

Haven't had it on tap, so can't testify to that. The coffee taste and aroma were super strong in a can that I had on Saturday, though.
