I look forward to hearing your thoughts when you try it. I’m similar in that I prefer an imperial stout to be slightly on the sweeter side (I’m not taking about lactose infused cake beer). I think others (and including myself) are mentioning the sweetness compared to regular Deth (which is slightly more on the dryer side in general imo, even compared to BCS). To me, it’s more like a sweetness you would get from a rum barrel. Or maybe like Expedition without the strong roast character. Either way, I didn’t see this one coming and I absolutely love it. Really hoping it makes its way into the DW series again.

I second that. Even if they can't get the barrels from Binny's again, that base beer (I imagine) is really nice for another addition to the Deep Woods family as a regular. Would be a shame if they didn't use that beer again in barrels

I’m with you as well (although not sure I can agree with @Quilentro). It was good, but kinda felt like beers I’ve had from the DW series, like taking parts of SJ, Ryeway and DT and making one beer. Tasty for sure, but it didn’t knock my socks off.

Blackberry Finn available as a crowler via GrubHub. Also, Thundertaker crowlers available too for those that missed out.

can we start a petition for DW crowlers to come with a complimentary jug of electrolyte water?

Lots of good points on both sides here. I'll try my next can with a clean palate and an open mind. Appreciate that we can express some differences of opinion here and still be friendly. That's not happening in a lot of places lately, including on here (gives SP thread the stink eye). Cheers all!

A few things to specifically respond to here:

As long as I can stay in Fight Club, I'll pass on the FUPA God/Hacker/Pro status.

With more ease, grace, and agility than my wife and physician probably prefer.

This is a good point. It has more of a cuvee feel to it than a straight up BA stout. Maybe that's what threw me off some here.

Thundertaker is fantastic. Smells smooth to me somehow. Incredibly complex for a non adjuncted BA stout. Got vanilla, raisins, leather, chocolate, and great barrel presence with a subtle nice rye bite finish. Agreed this isn't mind blowing but def said wow a few times while sipping it, but hard to name a better bang for the buck non BA stout given this is $7.50 for 12 oz can!! Hopefully Thundertaker becomes and annual DW can.

The real secret is Pedialyte popsicles. They taste less bad than the drinks and they're frozen.

Ok, at risk of you guys thinking I’m weird, I’ll say that I haven’t recycled my Thundertaker can from the other night. I keep smelling it. It reminds me of something very very specific, and I can’t make the jump. Please help!

Maybe... toffifay?!? Salted peanut brittle? Ugh this is really bothering me.

unrelated - rev Oktoberfest is just really hitting the spot this year. Whether I’m grilling, overseeding, or searching for giant autumnal orb spider webs, it’s the perfect liquid for the season.

This is reaffirming my decision to not chase BCS this year. I literally get to sit at home and order as much Deep Woods as possible. I will miss chatting with the Rev people at the releases but fuck me if this isn't making me a little more happy as this shitty fucking year comes to a close.

This thought had crossed my mind recently too. Wife and I both work in the schools and have 2 school aged kids on top of it. Extremely solid, no frills BA stouts are going to be in high demand very soon when winter comes.

I really, really love the Rev release parties. My missus and I would plan around attending them, so I will most those for sure.

It will be nice to just order and pick up whatever I want though. I do think I might finally just take a full year off from BCBS variant hunting, it hasn't been worth it for a while now.

Assume you are referring to Thundertaker. If so, the brewpub has crowlers for $35 still.
