Had Cafe today. It was absolutely incredible. The aroma isn't as "explosive" as last year but the coffee flavor is better integrated into the beer.

 

2020 Deth’s Tar is excellent, but Cafe is incredible again this year. This beer is so damn good out of the gate. Both pair well with celebratory fireworks. If that "feels" too political for you you, suck it. My post can be reported and deleted.

I'm guessing with the new restrictions there won't be, but just in case, does anyone know if they are doing a little tasting for the next round of Deep Woods beers?

 

Hot take:

2019 Deth's Tar > 2020 Deth's Tar

2020 Cafe Deth > 2019 Cafe Deth

2020 Cafe is probably the best version I've had; it's the most balanced & well integrated coffee flavor I've had from the series. Last year's had a BIG coffee nose but wasn't as overall enjoyable, IMO.

2020 Deth's Tar is damn good, but it just doesn't have the same depth & complexity that 2019 displayed. Glad to have a bunch on hand, of course, but I'll be fishing for 2019's via the Mystery Pack.

 

I've been ruminating on this off and on all day. Was going to wait to have a second another day this week before posting it. But yeah, it's really damn good.

 

Given the currently restrictions with the City, it would have to be outdoors which we don't have any space for unfortunately. If they change the rules to where they were 3-4 weeks ago, we'd certainly see if it's still feasible. Unfortunately, things seem to be going in the opposite direction right now so I wouldn't expect anything for the November release. [Sad Emoji]

 

Finally had some regular Deth’s Tar and goddamn it lives up to the hype.

Considering just buying more of this & Cafe and letting my BCBS reservation expire. I wish I was kidding.

EDIT: and Maple Deth crowlers!

 

Finally tried the Maple Deth. It was good, just not spectacular like what I’ve come to expect from the Deep Wood series. It tasted like a barrel aged stout with maple syrup added at the end, which reminded me of CBS and CW Maple Barrel Stout. Would have liked some maple aroma, akin to Mornin Delight.

 

This is actually a great description of the Great Lakes forum...generous, but a bit dick-ish.

 

Cafe is in its sweet spot right now (for me at least). Drinking gloriously, coffee seems more rounded than last week. I'm going to keep enjoying some of these while Benthic settles a bit more to my liking.
