How great would it have been if you could only buy it if you got a table and ate lunch first.

Yes, but was there babies in strollers in the line? That's when I'll know that we've truly reclaimed our pre-COVID greatness as a species.

That’s an important life experience that Covid denied me and my baby and we’ll never get that moment back.

Safe to assume they are letting you purchase crowlers of DBVSOJ to go? Only reason I ask is because we haven’t seen the obligatory DW release day post from @GuyFawkes stating he was shot down by the bartender when asking for one.

So do you still have to wait in line if you’re only picking up? Am I seeing that correctly?

just to get in and have a drink?

My wife and I were actually gonna walk over with our newborn and grab a drink. I take it the place is crazy?

Given the hype over DBSVOJ and GI 2yr BW
is it safe to say that perhaps BA BWs are where brewers should be pivoting for the next big thing? Seems like most brewers (Rev is an exception) are putting out like 10 varieties of BA stouts and 1 BA BW when they should probably play around more and increase the number of ba barleywines offered in their lineup.

Do you have to wait in line if you’re just picking up? I plan to go tomorrow at open but just to pick up. I assume I can forgo the line.

to me, Rev’s bw’s (ryeway included in there) have always been stronger than their stouts. so idk if every brewery should be sticking to increasing barleywine variants but Rev certainly should be!

I thought about that very same thing a few times over the past couple of months. I think barrel aged stouts still rule the day as far as demand, but barrel aged barleywines have definitely flown by sours and 'coveted' NE IPAs.

I think it's just way more rare to find a good BA BW, so aside from how good (for example) Rev's are, it's a supply and demand thing.

With that said, yeah, there's clearly demand for good ones, so it'd be nice if more breweries invested in these, VS yet another vanilla stout or 6 identical-tasting hazy IPAs.

Originally yes, but they started taking people in just to get cans ((like a couple people at a time). You still may wait outside a bit though. Line isn’t as long as it was.

Hit the front of line just a little after they reached capacity but wasn’t super long. Got in like maybe 2:15 and inside at 2:45? Grabbed the two Rioter’s Reserve — think I liked DB more. No line for can pickup which was great.

As an aside, in my years-long yet ongoing city and suburb burger hunt, Big Kids may be one of, if not the, worst I’ve had.

For whatever reason, there seems to be more acceptable room for experimentation in BA stouts than barleywines, and perhaps stouts generally make a better base for breweries to layer their thicccboi pastry ingredients on? Either way, I'm glad that producers of good barleywines recognize that they can stand on their own, and different spirits for barreling is perhaps all the experimentation we need. I would hate for the market to be inundated with shitty pastry barleywines. I still roll my eyes at the occasional vanilla barleywine I've been seeing pop up on occasion recently.

Doug's photos on Instagram look nuts! I enjoy the draft variants but I also enjoy what is usually a pretty laid-back atmosphere. I'm seriously rethinking my plan to stop by the taproom tomorrow.
