From my cold dead hands ... the chance of getting that one is what got me to buy the Lotto box

I mean, Gravedigger Billy is a very polarizing beer. I love almost everything Rev does, but I despise GDB. Tastes like chewing an ashtray to me. I’m staying away on this one.

They still had VSO Dark Mode available (and the website even says they have Boss Ryeway available to go from the brewery but it's not listed in the online ordering site or I would've gotten some) so I assume VSO gravedigger is sticking around for a while. Way more polarizing than Deth by Coconut which didn't sell out during the initial release apparently or something like VSO Dark Mode & Boss Ryeway.

I'm just hopeful for no Cafe Deth in my Lotto boxes.

It's my least favorite Deep Wood beer and I ALWAYS get them in these boxes...

The IG post with everyone standing around sampling this beer got me sucked in. Never had it so hopefully it not "polarizing" or "like chewing an ashtray"!

I was already logged in when I started the purchase process on Chrome. Wasn't logged in on Edge. I have no idea what was going on. Might have been the auto fill? I entered everything by hand in Edge since I never use it and it didn't know my info to auto fill.

The VSO treatment for Dark Mode made it an easy decision to snag the allotment of VSO GB for me. I thought VSO Dark Mode would be a miss, but man if it wasn’t one of my favorites from last year’s releases. There’s magic in that extended aging/blending!

My only hesitation was whether I should grab another 4 pack of VSO Dark Mode too…

Thanks for the notes. Like I mentioned, no one in that video on IG, from what I recall, mentions anything about smoke flavors. I'm sensitive to smoke flavors in beer and this may be a miss for me. However, want to try it and form my own opinion. Looking forward to it!

This is insane to me. Have you ever had a rauchbier? They range all over the place. Some can even be very subtle. I find the smoke level of GDB to be nonexistent relative to the subtlest of rauch. Hell, there are porters and stouts out there with heavily roasted dark malts that are smokier than GDB. Some of the chars that the oak in BA Voodoo stouts impart are smokier than GDB. This is just blowing my mind... again!

I chalk it up to palates. I find Gravedigger to have somewhere between a low-to-moderate level of smoke, but I got railed on here for mentioning that a while back. I thought last year’s was perfectly balanced. Either way, I can’t wait to try VSOGB.

Yeah, I get it. Everyone has a different experience with many beers. I thought the last batch of GDB was fantastic and really underrated in the scope of BA Scotch Ales. That style particularly was a gateway to BA beers for me, particularly Backwoods Bastard, and to a slightly lesser extent CW BB Scotch Ale. I really don't care for overly smokey beers, but I loved the hint of smoke on the last GDB. In my experience it was fairly nuanced and added a really nice dimension to the style. I hope it's not overly smokey, and doesn't sound like it will be. One of the reasons I prefer Ryeway to VSOR, is that the extended aging in VSOR really amplified some maple notes that I prefer weren't there.

That last comment should get some FUPAs in a bunch. TL;DR, really excited for VSO GDB or whatever we're calling it.
