    Uhhhhh.....alright....

Cuvée de Grâce, Dread & Breakfast, and Life Jacket lead off this summer’s Deep Wood Series releases, available for online pre-sale July 18th and pouring July 21st.

    Cuvée de Grâce

Cuvée Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Standing before the multitudes of meticulously stacked barrels in our brewery Taproom may rightly give one a sense of order, of place, of purpose, of fastidious intentions being slowly and silently realized. It's said that nature, however, prefers chaos. Cuvée De Grâce seeks to create a cohesive, balanced beer from some of the most disparate and unique barrels at our disposal. Never to be recreated, each blend is a celebration of our most cherished traditions as brewers.

    Dread & Breakfast

Breakfast Blend Ale With Coffee Aged in Bourbon Barrels

From beneath the swirling black depths of time emerges a two-year cuvée laden with the rousing and ethereal specter of freshly roasted Dark Matter coffee. Brought to unholy perfection via a blackened menagerie of extended-age and double-barreled casks featuring equal measures of French and American oak. The resulting blend conjures notes of cocoa, vanilla, maple, and subtle smoke, in this, the most important beer of the day.

    Life Jacket

Barleywine Ale with Mango, Guava, Passionfruit, and Coconut

    Aged in Bourbon Barrels

Hey kid! What'd you do, jump ship? Amicable waves of tropical fruit and freshly toasted coconut lap against the oaken hull of the S.S. Straight Jacket in this summery take on our beloved Barleywine. Familiar notes of malty-sweet stone fruit are flanked by ripe, juicy mango and guava while the bracing acidity of passionfruit pilots toward a focused definition in each sip.

That was the line that mattered the most to me in that email - very, very happy to hear that.

Totally on board with each cuvee, the track record here is solid. I'm guessing Dark Mode components are contributing the lactose and don't anticipate it'll detract from these in any way.

If Life Jacket is in the season ticket I guess I'll be stuck with some to offload, but otherwise a big pass for me. And that's ok. No hate, the flavors just sound too much like a smoothie for my taste.

I’m hoping it’s on the level of GIs Prop 22.

It's entirely possible that the announcement of Strawberry Jacket had similar comments :stuck_out_tongue:
I'm going to be cautiously optimistic about the smoothiewine.

I was excited for and enjoyed the Strawberry and Honey Jacket iterations, and I thought Blackberry Finn was great; Finn seemed to have enough body and alcohol heat to carry the blend and it still felt like drinking a beer.

I don't doubt Life Jacket's execution will be high quality, but those particular fruits and coconut could easily overwhelm what makes SJ great and will be best used, in my opinion, very sparingly. Well, ideally not at all but that's a personal preference against guava/mango/passionfruit which I think of as candy fruits. Maybe someone can french press some Skittles into SJ and give us a preview of what to expect?

Never know until you try it... though I would have never gone that route. Hopefully it's a small batch.

I thought Strawberry jacket was a miss and a complete waste of good straight jacket.

Yeah, not sure what to think about Lifejacket. If anyone could pull off that beer it's Revolution.

It just doesn't sound good to me. Tropical fruit + coconut I see what there going for & don't think that I have ever seen a BA BW with that kind of adjuncts so it unique but at the end of the day not excited about it.

Bottle Logic has had a few strong ales with similar components, even going for tiki inspiration and using rum and other such barrels. Some have even been pretty good. Not better than Arcane Rituals, but then again, not much is.

Just for reference, they are mostly stouts technically, but the first two:

    Phosphorescence
    Distant Messenger
    Broken Blender
    Alchemy of Elements

My unrefined taste buds find straight jacket bland and one dimensional so the addition of some tangy fruit will open the beer up for me similar to how adding some acid like vinegar or lemon juice balances out the oil in a salad. Rev is good with fruited Deep Woods. I expect this to be no different.

My guess is the base beer will be a mix of stout and brown ales with coffee. I kind of hope they skip the maple
