Never had a problem with Oznr. I get notifications for all the breweries I have notifications configured for and don't let it track anything. I don't even think it uses location services and if it does then just disable that setting. The only issue with Oznr are the fees but at least they aren't at the level of Ticketmaster.

The cost to bring it in house and maintain for the brewery is probably far more than the additional revenue they’d make by charging more themselves. The same reason most breweries don’t distribute themselves either.

They were and they were spectacular! And most of those sold out like lightning so Oznr hasn’t prevented sales. Rev also doesn’t have a habit of holding on to DBVSOD level stuff like Half Acre at least used to (last two releases have not shown up to go at the taproom) so it’ll just come down to someone else buying your allotment instead of you sticking it to them because of your “principles” on hating Oznr.

But what you don’t see way up on your high horse is the ancillary revenue generated from releases when people pick up and may opt to buy a 6 pack of a lager, merch, hang out at the taproom, etc. Sure, they may sell out the 3 or 4 limited releases regardless, but what about all the others DW releases that don’t and that sit around for 2+ years? Do you really want to lose the ancillary revenue on those, too?

Edit: and I think the larger beer industry would like to have a conversation with you about this limitless customer base with hordes of cash they are willing to spend on beer as brewery after brewer go under.

I avoid OZNR as much as I can, mostly because it strikes me as supporting the continued gamification of craft beer. I don't consider my data that precious so to date I have used it for select releases from Half Acre, Goose, and Cruz Blanca. The interface can be clunky but appears to perform fine technically. I think lottery style releases are a relatively unique feature of the app which more breweries could employ for limited releases, but that seems to have fallen out of favor among my favorites.

Voting no. Oznr works well enough, but I really hate the added fees and charges.

Perhaps I'm haphazardly connecting certain dots here, but I truly don't see any brewery going under due to the loss of revenue stemming from an anti-Oznr boycott.

Fees would have to skyrocket to 20% or more before the core customer base would balk, and no brewery would agree to anything close to that.

I agree with @KidGalaga but also, you are comparing apples to oranges.

Doug asked about using Oznr for season passes. So people with season passes are going in to pickup every release and Rev captures all of the ancillary revenue on every release.

Whether they should use Oznr for every public release of individual cans regardless of style? I’m not suggesting that. Most places that use Oznr don’t use it for every release. More puts some Hennas up on Oznr along with their BA stuff but that’s about it and otherwise their packaged options are on toast. P3 and Mikerphone are the same, where most of the beer they release is on a brewery site instead. And for those releases that don’t sell out on oznr, the beer usually shows up for in person or website sales (see the most recent Mikerphone Pappy 15 release, where the Oznr leftovers were snatched up on the website a couple days later.) I am assuming it would be the same at Rev.

So far at least, it seems like breweries and bottle shops around here only use it for the initial wave of big, hard to get releases or for memberships, and it doesn’t sound like Rev is going to try to go beyond that.

I have not purchased any beer through Oznr and am opposed to the unreasonable fees; I want as much of my money as possible to go to Revolution, and as little as possible to go to a sales platform.

So I can just go to Binnys at what time and hope they haven’t allocated what they got to their employees?

and what is a season ticket holder?

fair enough in terms of wanting every cent to go to the business itself, but you're basically saying you don't support breweries when they have a release through Oznr.

That's an unfortunate stance to take for the breweries which are trying to find the most efficient way to do releases.

Btw, I'm sure Shopify allows Rev to use their platform for free, right?

Maybe OZNR should become an open platform with a guest web option rather than a forced app? If I want to order a pizza from Lou Malnattis they don’t force me to download pizza software.

One could also make the argument OZNR is acting as a defacto distributor without the appropriate licenses as you aren’t purchasing the brewers product through the brewers site. Would be interesting to see some big distributor challenge them.

Yes. This is a collab between Rev and Binny's barrels. When they've done this coordinated release in the past (i.e. Thundertaker) it's available at open on the day they say it is. And no, it won't be allocated to their employees. Go to your preferred Binny's and you should have no problem getting it.

Pretty awesome people who love excellent BA beer. FUPAs are optional.

I've used Oznr enough. Never had any problems with the app. Android user here though. My issue with Oznr as noted by many is the fees. Also a 'No' vote here.

I'll be re-upping my season ticket in 2024. I passed on More and P3 memberships because I plan to give that money to Rev again. The Rev program just ticks all the boxes for me - consistent quality, focus on barrel and not pastry, aggressively priced, super flexible on pick ups and allowing proxies, excellent customer service, free beers, 12 oz format, etc. Love it.
