100% agree with this. Outside of hometown brewery memberships my money is really only going to Rev at this point.

Wholeheartedly agree with all of this, surely the gold leader. Even in my More 24 opening thread, Rev was atop the rankings. I would also add Rev is the most innovative with experimenting with different barrels and blending, managing to regularly make the next one more special and unique than the last. Even old standards like Straight Jacket find new ways to blow your socks off every year.

Say nothing of the draft only options which feels like the brewers held a (sometimes very large) private tasting to experiment with different components, ages, blends and barrels to allow us a small window into how the magic happens. And some of those are so special (Money Barrel, Form of the Destructor, as examples) that it feels like we have a chance at tasting the brewers own private stash. And the best part? Revolution has never walled that part off and tried to make it too exclusive for hype purposes, keeping it for the people. Fitting given the name on the cans.

    Vive la Revolution!

I understand smaller breweries don’t necessarily have the capacity to facilitate an online sales mechanism, and larger breweries possibly might find cost savings by shifting to an outside platform.

However, I don’t regret skipping the local oznr released beers (Half Acre, More, P3, Mikerphone, Maplewood, GI), including several beers I would otherwise buy in person or online direct from the brewery. These breweries are more out of site / mind unless someone specifically points out releases haven’t sold out, including their regular offerings. I don’t go to these taprooms as often as pre OZNR.

I’d still purchase Ryeway to Heaven and other offerings available post OZNR sales, but would likely miss out on a few each year. There are also a few releases each year I’d likely skip without sampling at a preview party based on the listed ingredients or taste profile I end up liking or loving, which is why I enjoy having the option to get a box of everything plus more of my favorites.

From the On & On Part 3 Rev tasting video -> 16.6% (!!!)...drier and boozier than Deth's Tar, SJ and Ryeway. Gonna be a doozy.

The only breweries that I no longer visit are places that went back to in person sales only. I’m done lining up and the convenience of online sales and memberships is the only way I’ll buy packaged beer from breweries anymore. As such, I’m not in any breweries for draft beer that don’t have online sales.

But there, it’s a matter of wasting hours of my life and therefore hundreds of dollars standing in a line, whereas Oznr is typically under a 5% add to the purchase price. I’ll gladly pay that for a brewery that is trying to provide the convenience and time saving I need by using an online platform. And thus, I am spending more money and time in those places because they offer it over others.

The other thing I would mention is that even successful places that have been around for almost a decade like Mikerphone NEED Oznr because they don’t hire a tech support person to help with the logistical headaches from high demand releases on other platforms like toast. If you remember the beginning of the pandemic, Mikerphone oversold a BA release due to software issues, which is a nightmare financially and from a PR standpoint. They switched to the hybrid system immediately and haven’t had any problems since. So let’s not pretend that Oznr isn’t solving problems for breweries and are exclusively parasitic.

Get ready for that Binny's 3-tier system upcharge...
    Cafe Deth is $30 brewery, $32.99 Binny's
    Ryeway is $30 brewery, $33.99 Binny's
    VSO Gravedigger/Vanilla Deth is $40 brewery, $45.99 Binny's
    VSOR is $50 brewery, guessing it's $57-$60 at Binny's. :grimacing::sunglasses:

Still very reasonable pricing compared to normal brewery BA releases. Hard to complain about it.

There's more beer out there than dollars in my wallet, so yes, I do take it into account. Breweries are free to choose their own sales strategy, and this is only one aspect of it. But one of my preferences is to spend less of my money at those who knowingly choose a platform that sticks their customers with huge fees.

And yes, I'm sure Shopify imposes some fees on Rev that we don't see directly when checking out. However, given that Rev has managed to put out 4-packs of Deth's Tar and Straight Jacket at the same $25 price point since before the pandemic and changing platforms, even amidst recent inflation and can shortages, I'm fairly confident that those fees don't approach what Oznr is charging. (I imagine Rev's online sales are fairly small for those beers compared to in-person and retail shops, so there's a volume vs margin argument to make here, but still.)

Next week’s release cannot get here fast enough because this thread has been derailed with some serious “old man yells at cloud” vibes.

My eye twitches a little after every good Deth/death pun when I remember that Rev's founder's last name is pronounced "deeth."
