That makes two of us, I love that beer so much. 4-packs will be Taproom only. Kegs will see a bit of distro, mostly for preview parties. Happy New Year, all!
Bummer. I guess I'll have to find it on tap somewhere. Do you know which Cognac the barrels are from? And since you're using the term cognac, presumably it's French and legit (better not be E&J )
It is indeed French and legit, and... that's about all we can tell you! There's a surprising amount of secrecy from our supplier on the cognac barrels, so even if we could make an educated guess, we don't actually know with 100% certainty. Sorry for the mystery, but we'll make it up to you with really tasty beer if that works.
No way man...I'm done making that trek...I hated it when I lived in the city and I hate it even more now that I'm in the 'burbs
Draft variants for the Jan release Mineshaft Money Barrel This single barrel of sweet component Straight Jacket was aged for thirteen months in a Cognac barrel with a double dose of new, fire-toasted French oak. The firmer tannic structure in this singular example presents leaner on the finish despite its elevated malt profile compared to the main Mineshaft Gap release. Sanctuary 26 Aged a total of five years, this exceedingly old double-barrelled blend of Deth’s Tar and Dark Mode stouts is fairly saturated with caramel fudge malt, and oaken vanilla. Malörted by the Empire A nod to one of our favorite draft variants from the past few years, this single barrel of Deth’s Tar was aged for five years in a Jepson’s Malört barrel. Wood tannin is minimal from the third-use American oak cask, allowing the spirit’s supple herbaceousness to provide balance to this inky black, super-aged stout. Other People’s Barrels Vol. II A follow-up foray into our most wine-focused variants to-date, O.P.B. Vol. II celebrates everything we love about big, dumb, Paso Robles wines, in a stout. Built from the same blend comprising our collaboration with Surly Brewing and Herman Story Wines, Sur Lie, this single barrel features a blend of lees from Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir. A cocktail of organic acids and French oak extracted from the lees over several months of bâtonnage (lees stirring) drive this stout squarely into beer/wine hybrid territory.
Hoping cask returns later this year when the weather is warmer. Also hoping A Little Crazy is still for sale when it's warm enough to also pick up my January Deep Woods allotment. Looks like early February before we get over the 20 F mark when i'll come by. Glad I picked up the first three six packs last Friday, the day it approached above freezing. Also, nice touch opening 30 minutes early today to allow attendees to avoid the cold & an outdoor line to get in before the beer is poured.
I had the Mineshaft Gap at the preview event at Monk's yesterday. Man, that's a near-perfect beer if you like Cognac. Smooth, balanced, with notes of wine, grape, and oak coming through beautifully. A symphony of balance (as I like to say about Rev's BA beers). After having a full pour of that one, as much as I wanted to try the rest, I needed to head out to catch a train. Stay warm out there.
I gotta say that the Mineshaft Money Barrel was certainly more intense than the base. My friends loved it, but the French oak was almost spicy to my palate. Star of Anise or another exotic spice flavor in a way. Hard to put a finger on it. I loved La Cerise tho, really reminded me of DB VSOJ and it was super light on the cherries, which was pleasant. I'm a little cherried out after the Fifteen Year Beer, base without the cherries was certainly the favorite on tap. Sur Lie was really interesting, it also seemed dry/tannic. Chocolate came out as it warmed up, which was good. I wouldn't buy the tallboy personally.
So looking forward to everything but didn't make the drive up this weekend from central IN due to the weather. Can't wait to get dat malort on draft, though.
