I have several of these - Gravedigger Billy, Deth's Tar, Ryeway to Heaven, Straight Jacket - and I'm trying to figure out when to drink them. I had a fresh Deth's Tar last year, and while enjoyable, seemed a bit hot. The info on the box suggests it be consumed fresh or kept cold.

What do you think - better fresh or with a little shelf time on it?

Sit on straight jacket for a year or two. 6 months is long enough for Gravedigger Billy and Deth's Tar. Mean Gene, Bean Gene and Blue Gene are fine to drink fresh. I'm cracking a Ryeway to heaven tonight. I'm guessing it'll be a bit hot. Hope this helps!

My motto is drink fresh. If it's easy to come by each release, try one fresh and let some age. See how you like em vice versa.

They are all stellar no matter when you open them. The ones to be wary of are 2014 Bean Gene, 2014 Blue Gene, and 2015 Very Mad Cow. All of them are infected in some way.

I have a Bean Gene from 2014. I'll have to open that soon and see what's up. Thanks.

I actually made a topic about this a while ago. I am not 100% sure if these bottles are infected, but they definitely taste off and as if they were aged in poor quality barrels. As far as I know Revolution never acknowledged any quality issues and continued to pour these at events as if nothing was wrong.

It's a shame, because 2013 Bean Gene was one of my favorite beers at the time. Fingers crossed this year's batch is solid.

That's interesting, I never heard of any infection issues, but I did notice Bean Gene, Mean Gene, and Very Mad Cow to be off in flavor in comparison to the previous year, so that may have something to do with it!

I had an 18 month old Death's Tar, it was awesome but I also enjoy it fresh. Basically I drink them when ever I get to them.
