Just picked up a fresh 6-pack of Revolution Brewery's Unsessionable. I've enjoyed it the past couple years and always look forward to its release. However, this year's batch tastes strange to me. It doesn't taste like an IPA and doesn't resemble previous years' batches. I pick up a strong Belgian taste. Lots of banana, wheat, etc...

Let me add that the new Mosaic Hero can release had a similar Belgian taste to me. Has Rev switched to a different recipe for their IPAs?
I don't hate either beer but when I'm in the mood for an IPA, I wont be reaching for any of Rev's latest IPAs.

Does anyone have an inside scoop?

Thanks! Some buddies disagreed with me about Mosaic Hero. To them... its a juicy bitter IPA. I don't get juicy. I get malty, banana, wheat. Same with Unsessionable. And I understand people have different palates and taste preferences, I'm just curious if Rev is using new concoctions to brew their beers.

We were excited to get it again and agree, it's just not the same. Has to be a different recipe or they went cheap on something.

HOLY SHIT! You guys read my mind. Mosaic Hero is super Belgiany to me. I hardly even get a Mosaic quality from it.

This year, I prefer Half Acre's Navaja over Unsessionable for my local Imperial IPA. It tastes like an IIPA should.

I first had Mosaic Hero at the Brewery/Tap room and returned it accusing them of giving me the wrong beer!

Well...guess I'm glad I passed on them both, recently. I was thinking about picking up a sixer of Unsessionable soon, so thanks for saving me the cash!

Personally.. since they've canned the Hero series (outside of jukebox hero) I've been pretty unimpressed with all of them. Simply not the hop bombs that showcased the hops as they were in the past (in bombers). So much so that I have zero interest in purchasing unsessionable.. rather try it on tap then swallow the $15 6pk.

If Unsessionable tastes different, maybe I'll actually like it this time around. I found it barely drinkable in the past. I'll still stick with all the beer I currently have, or my reliable options at the store.

i picked up cans of mosaic hero when it had just came out and I thought same thing. Tasted like a Belgian pale ale and not a juicy IPA. drank 2 cans and drained poured the other 4.

Every Unsessionable I've had since the first batch was released in cans (2 years ago??) has been progressively worse. Still a good IIPA, but last year and this year's batch haven't been on par with that first run of cans.

Mosaic Hero also didn't do it for me this year. Definitely a "Belgian-y" taste to it. Thought Galaxy and Citra Hero were solid though, so who knows...

Agreed...the first canning of Unsessionable was incredible. It's never tasted the same to me since.

I had assumed it was just my palate changing.

Yeah, I always assumed I'd built it up too much in my mind over that year (I had it again a year later), or that I'd had a LOT of top-notch DIPAs.

Disappointing to hear if so, I'm not a fan of 1zEnuff, but enjoy Unsessionable.

However, Mosaic Hero is still good, you guys are crazy (its no Galaxy Hero, I'll agree). All of the hero series are overly sweet & malty in general, which is why, imo, lighter hops (galaxy, mosaic, crystal) work better for that malt bill.

Agree, I like Mosaic Hero. It has a bubblegum / popcorn flavor that I've never tasted in a beer and seems to work well in that beer to me. Never had unsessionable. Glad this thread came out - I'll try to get just one as opposed to a sixer.

Agreed with the above. Thought it might have just been me, but this beer is completely different than last year. The aftertaste alone made me regret buying this for $15. Would have been better spent on Navaja. I tried drinking this on two separate ocassions thinking I may have wrecked my palette the first time. Reminds me of Revolutions other IPAs that I normally steer clear of.

Anti Hero doesn't taste right to me, I hate to follow the belgian wheat flavor narrative but it does have a bit of that going on. Sad about the UnSessionable I was looking forward to getting some.

Agree with other posts, this year is definitely different. I say that as a consumer that hits the drafts in the brewpub and the taproom....as well as sixers. Something's off.
