Heading down to Richmond end of next week. Any recommendations for good beer shops or beer pubs (with good food)?
Once upon a vine, Total Wine, and Whole Foods are all good choices for bottles. Mekong is a great place to go drink.
If you only have time for one stop to drink and eat, it should be at Mekong. It is the best place to go for beer in the state, IMO. If you have extra time, it is worth checking out Commercial Tap House, Blowtoad, Secco, Popkin Tavern, Joe's Inn, and Capitol Alehouse. Cap Ale is hit or miss, so don't be fooled by the name. Sometimes you will find 5 awesome beers on tap, and other times half the menu is out or wrong. Once Upon a Vine North and South are the two main beer stores left. Strawberry St market tends to have some hidden gems from time to time. Whole Foods is awesome, but tends to be out of the way if you will be downtown.
I have been pleased with the selection at Corks and Kegs in the past, but I haven't been to Richmond in a couple of years so would defer to those with more current information.
Oops! Looking forward to Mekong and will definitely check out the shops as I will have a good amount of free time.
