Im coming into town for the weekend, wanted to know if anyone can fill me in on ride sharing and or cabs, especially to and from Jester King. Are they reliable, as in, if we took one to JK, would we reliably be able to get a car to take us back to Austin? Or is it hit or miss? Trying to decide whether or not to rent a car- any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fasten is the major one in town now and works well. Very similar to Uber. Getting one to JK is easy, getting one back is hit or miss as it depends if something gets dropped off nearby. More likely on the early side of Saturday and Sunday than Friday. But you might be able to talk one of the drivers to stick around for a little while or come back for you. FYI JK sells bottle shippers if you need one.

Ride is another quality app. The rest are sub-par (Get Me, Wingz, Fare)

Coming to town for the marathon? I'll be there this weekend for the race and ended up opting to rent a car for this very reason. I'll definitely take a look at these apps though.

Which...speaking of the race, might make getting a ride through a ride sharing app (or a cab) difficult on Sunday, just a heads up.

Ha no I was born without an athletic bone in my body. Good to know though thanks for the heads up- and good luck (break a leg?)

It would definitely be cheaper to rent a car than to ride share it down there.

    Best to rent a car...

The issue with renting a car for out-of-towners is that one usually is seduced into imbibing in one's sparse opportunities to visit JK. It seems like it's time for a bus service to set up a route to and from downtown Austin.

I think a bus route to the east side and down to places like St Elmo/PHP and a separate to the northern brewers (ABW area) would be a successful venture.

Having one to JK would be much more difficult due to traffic and distances involved. It just increases the size and the number of buses you need. When the 5 or so more breweries opening in the Dripping Springs area come on board, maybe then.
