Official release date is 3/21, but apparently it has already started popping up on the east coast and perhaps SoCal too. The beer guy at Costco said he's been expecting it for a few days, but alas it hasn't shown up yet. Definitely time to start checking your locals...

Don't forget to add the people complaining about the same topic being brought up again while still being compelled to comment.

That's fine. Fair point. Any other thoughts, or just that one point of my entire paragraph that you plucked out to invalidate?

That was the big one that bothered me. However it is not a point yet where the beer I want to collect and celler costs to much for me to justify. I think the most expensive beer I bought this year was $30 and in my mind can replace fine wine or any other beverage to celebrate a very special occasion. Coupled with the fact that it can age for years and the price to me is justified.

what I said must have went way over your head. Because your points make no argument or sense.

You said that because water is the main ingredient in beer it means that no beer is worth more than ten dollars. I was countering your argument by showing how other similar goods are made with water but cost the same and much more than beer for a quality bottle. Makes quite a bit of sense to me.

How can you compare high-end NYC craft beer bar prices with a craft beer shop? TØRST is Jeppe's bar. Jeppe is Mikkel's twin brother.

You're correct about land in some cases but not all. The other point is not all land makes the same quality wine even if you plant the same variety of grape on it. Beer doesn't rely on it's ingredients being grown in a specific place. But for the sake of arguement lets say your right about sours. How does this explain $30 or more for non sour FFF or Bruery beers?

Anything that expensive from FFF or the Bruery is barrel aged. Thus incresing cost to produce as well as time. In my experience most regular Bruery beers are 15-22$ which for the quality is a good deal. Just like most people dont drink 20$ bottles of wine everyday the same goes for beer. Also Beer absolutley requires ingredients grown in certian places, definately not to the degree of wine but it does matter.

My personal threshold is a buck an ounce. Any time I have exceeded this ratio, it has been a case of diminishing returns.

I called them out on it and they said it was a mistake. They'll supposedly cut it in half and see if anyone will buy it then. I won't.

Thank you very much for the reply. This store is in another state where they sell Cascade (we don't get it here in KY) so I had no idea what they should go for. I simply assumed they were high because I was comparing the prices to those of other (American) sours I have seen. It's good to know that the prices were okay, since I always thought that store had very reasonable prices on everything else.

As for the BDs, I do kind of regret passing on them (since they're the first I've seen in 5 years of this hobby), but with all the truly great beers available these days, I just can't make myself believe that one beer is worth that much money, no matter how rare it is. Cheers!

I tend to avoid overpriced beer and wine. Two reasons: the first is that every extra dollar spent has less and less of an impact on the quality of the product. In other words, as you spend more the "gains" get tinier and tinier. So for the extra 50% expenditure you get like 2% more quality which is trivial at best.

Secondly, there are sooooooo many great beers and wines at moderate prices that I just don't see any reason to pay so damned much for my brew or grape juice.

One more reason too - when you spend a lot there is a much larger chance for disappointment.

Its working. The breweries and retailers have you numb to the fact that some of them are gouging us so much that we start to believe that some of these jacked up prices are "normal"
