I've been on a bit of a quest for the thickest porter/stout around. What are some of the thickest, creamiest and heaviest stouts/porters available in the portland metro area.

Just grab an Oscar Blues Ten Fidy and call it a day. Similar to drinking motor oil (texture wise, not taste). There are plenty of other choices I'm sure will be mentioned. Look into various Baltic Porters also.

    +1 to this.

I'm annoyed by how much I liked this beer. At $10 a bottle, I think the price is outrageous. However, the beer is so damn good, that I found myself making a special trip over to Arch Bridge to grab another bottle. Perhaps fortunately, they were closed when I stopped by, but there's no doubt the beer is excellent and very addicting.

Midnight Sun's stouts like Moscow, Bar Fly, and Berserker are quite thick - I still see them sitting around here and there.

Ah motor oily stouts-- speaking to my heart here...

A few that came to mind, and that are available, to somewhat available around town in bottles or cans:

    - Stillwater On Fleek
    - Great Divide Yeti (or variants)
    - AleSmith Speedway
    - Evil Twin Stouts/ Porters (Lil B, Even More Jesus, Mini Growler to name a few)
    - Avery Callipygian, Tweak, or Uncle Jacob's

As mentioned above, Ten Fidy and the Midnight Sun stouts are great as well.

Any luck? I'm planning to head over to arch bridge tonight, and could grab a bottle for you (assuming they aren't out).

We got skunked on bottles up north but do have it on draft, it is quite good. The On Fleek I enjoy, but find it to be a bit too hot for its own good. I will also second the Berserker motion.

I thought this year's Parabola was extra thick and fudgy. I wish I had bought another bottle or two before they disappeared.

Another thick stout is Howe Sound's Pothole Filler. Canadian beer, and I don't think they distribute to Portland. Anyone seen this recently in WA?

I haven't seen anything from Howe Sound in a long time.

Howe Sound hasn't had a distributor in Washington for awhile (about 2.5 years). They make some great beers though-- that Pothole Filler definitely fits the bill for a thick stout. Hope they come back down at some point in the future, perhaps with some smaller packaging (they had been only doing 32oz Swing Top Bottles).

But man, did they make some junk too. Used to buy it just for the free growler, and sometimes would just have to force the beer down my throat.

Whenever I'm in BC i still only see Howe Sound in those 32 oz. swing tops.

And if you really want some, the Tukwila Total Wine is still selling their wheat beer. They've also got some Driftwood Altbier bombers. Damn those are some old bottles.

Howe Sound sells almost all of their year round offerings only in the 1L (32oz) bottles. The exception being the lager which they can. The pothole filler is one of their Fall specials and has also only been in the big bottles. Their barleywine was in 12oz bottles but they started releasing it in bombers for 2015.

If any of you are ever up Squamish way, they have their brewery/brewpub with an inn upstairs that I'd definitely recommend. Just a short stumble up some stairs to get to bed!

I thought this years parabola was a huge letdown. No carbonation or head at all. Glad I still have 3 left from last year, as I won't be opening a 2016 for a long while, if ever. For the OP, a stout I loved was BA Ivan the terrible from big sky. They still have a lot of bottles floating around here in Portland and its outstanding!

Really? This was from a few weeks ago. I thought it was a little hot/boozy but otherwise fantastic. I wonder if you got a bad bottle?

You know... One of the best local PDX stouts I've had is Fire on the Mountain's Electric Mud. I was really surprised.

Thumbs up for the arch bridge mention. I live in Damascus and stopped in tonight. Love it. Walked out with 2 birthday bombs and a old Skook English barleywine. Also am going to give sticky hands a try since I see it mentioned everywhere (I'm a strictly stout and barleywine guy, trying to maybe expand).
