Pretty excited about the opening of this brewery, as Paul is a hell of a brewer. The list of potential beers looks intriguing, particularly the apricot saison.

I'm hearing that they had their first brewday this week, so initial offerings should be available in late November. Can anyone confirm? Anyone have any other details?

I don't know but I'll get more info next time I see him, possibly at the next SBE meeting.

I think they're hoping to have their first brew day this weekend on their new system. They already brewed a saison and apricot saison a while back on the pilot system for when they open. Stawn knows. Hopefully he'll show up in this thread. Everyone is excited for them to open.

If a new brewery doesn't open every week in San Diego are there like riots and shit?

    Only if they're nano's.

This'll be one of the larger new production breweries to start up. They just got their steam/electricty/glyco systems debugged so they should be brewing soon. I think Paul told me he wants 4 production beers on tap and will have 3 to 4 pilot beers (limited) on tap for the Grand Opening...but don't quote me on that.

Believe me, Paul & Guy are ready to open and start making beer fast.

Looks great, I'll definitely visit next time i'm down, we need a pinned thread for new SD breweries...

Speaking of which, Belching Beaver just opened up in Vista 2 weeks ago. Anybody tried anything by them yet?

With any new brewery...give 'em a year to work out the kinks, get the hop contracts the want/need to make the beers they want etc...

A lot of new startups have to scrounge for hops and thus can't always make the beers the way they want them as they cope...

Very exited for Rip Current to open!

I heard all the beers will be minimum 300 IBU and all the big beers will be aged in Pappy barrels only.

When I first saw this thread title, I thought "Oh no - not another brewery that failed" (see El Cajon Brewing thread), and then I thought "What is Current Brewing? I've never heard of it."

I hear they kidnapped Vinnie and entombed him in the subflooring under the fermenters. Vinnie's brain sits in a glass bowl of sour'd beer and is wired to the brewhouse controls. They just poke it with a stick when they want to brew.

The ghost of Vinnie to bless all the beers. And their barrels will be made of solid gold.

We ...."tested" the system yesterday and again today. Once we get some items finalized we'll be brewing as fast as we can fill the fermenters. We'll announce a soft opening though our newsletter (www.ripcurrentbrewing.com), Facebook and Twitter. Grand Opening will likely be in January, but still just speculation as of now.
Hope that helps the rumor mill.

Fantastic beers from the start. Looking forward to a lot of great beers from these guys. Societe down in San Diego and RipCurrent in north county may be the best 2 new breweries of 2012.

Very impressive first offerings. The Nut Brown is the best American brewed English Brown I've had (Can they repeat this? The bar has been set high.) and the Double IPA is excellent. I liked all the beers: Saison, Apricot Saison, Pale Ale, etc.

I also was very impressed by the first brews. I had the session ale, the pale ale, the nut brown, the red and the iipa, and each one was terrific.
