Any info on Rip Current in San Marcos would be appreciated. Will be driving by the area today and was wondering if they have bottles for sale? If not, then growlers? Growler size (1 and 2 liters) & price (empty)? Food? I was thinking of stopping in RC instead of Societe today. Worth the visit?

Not a good idea imho. Societe beer > RC beer.

I've been to Societe at least a half dozen times on way back from ABC. I see they have a new batch of Pupil up. But heard good things about Rip. I do like my Societe beers! And BT's Southern BBQ in HB gets a keg in every week. So I should still stop in for growler fills at Societe?

Oh, I though you've never been to neither of those. Then the choice is clear. Otherwise I think RC is still worth visiting of course

No bottles. At least 14 beers on draft. 1L and 2L growlers are available. They usually have a food truck. Follow them on social media for more details.

Are all the growlers still the expensive SS type? Not a fun option for out of towners...

I've enjoyed a ton of different beers that Sangster makes.... every time I'm in that area I hit them up. Well worth a stop.

Yes, very good but very dangerous place. Too many high abv beers that dont drink that way. You can definitely get yourself into trouble.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up at Societe and then down to ABC. All stocked up with some fine ipa's. And 3.50 for a pint of Nelson at the brewpub!! Will make it a point to stop in Rip Current in a couple of months on my next ABC visit.

Not sure about Rip Current's growlers, but Societe's SS growler is well worth the $25. I bought both the german style glass and the SS back when i first visited Societe. Yes, $25ea for a total of 50. But I've filled them both up 7-8 times by now on my ventures down to SD. I've even taken my Societe's SS growler with me over to the island of Kauai and filled up at Kauai Beer Co and brought it home. Don't have to worry about it breaking. SS is the way to go. Now only if we can fill it at any California brewery's!

Only SS growlers at RC, 1L and 2L. I believe their prices are similar or the same to Societe's. There are many good reasons why breweries want their beer in these growlers.

Now that I think about it, a bunch of years ago I would have said limiting the amount of growlers (by the price) that I could buy was a bad thing... now days, limiting how much beer I can take home is probably a good thing...

I go to RC almost once a week. I guess it's more out of habit than anything. The beers are really good, of course.

Where's that bonehead that called them "Rip Curl" a few years back?

Been there once. Loved it! Nice people, quality beer, and mellow place. 1L SS Growler is great to use for other beverages other than beer.

Sometimes they have food trucks at the San Marcos location but I haven't been there in forever. Honestly, I found them rather mediocre at first, but when they opened up the tasting room in North Park, I really felt they had improved a lot on their recipes as the beer was a lot better than my initial visit to the San Marcos brewery. North Park tap room has a built in food restaurant thing in the back so that's cool. Plus its right down the street from Toronado SD and a huge grouping of breweries is on that same street.
