Checked out River North (downtown Denver) on St Paddy's day. Overall quite good, but have to say I was blown away by their Belgian Double IPA, Hypothesis. Great overall balance and between the citrsy hops and Belgian esters this was the "fruitiest" DIPA I have ever had. Really damn good. Looking forward to drinking it this summer. So much going on in the CO scene right now, thought I'd point out one of the high points.
Interesting. I was there a few weeks ago (before they tapped that one) and just couldn't get into what they had. The super-potent hops and yeast didn't work well for me, and I almost wondered if they forgot the malt along the way. Nothing horrible, but just not my thing. Different strokes, right? I'll have to give them another try and see if that one changes my mind.
Nothing out of this world, but thought their Black IPA was particularly good -- it was smooth, drinkable for a black ale, no bitterness, just a really good example of what a black IPA should be. Same for saison, good solid base beers that are true to their style and session-able. This is a tough market getting tougher, I feel like in Denver you gotta be great to stand out.
Agreed, and you know - the saison wasn't bad. I think they just didn't have anything that really spoke to me. It's not like anything had diacetyl or DMS, or anything along those lines. I just wanted some malt somewhere and I wasn't getting it.
