I'm coming back from Montréal on Friday and thought I'd stop at Foam and River Roost on my way down. I haven't been to River Roost yet and their website has zero information about anything at all and FB and Twitter don't have a hell of a lot more than that.

So, who's been there? I know @jhavs has been. Looking at their photos on Twitter, it appears they're using screw-top growlers? Will they fill my HF swing-tops? And how many beers do they usually have on tap? I'll call on my way down 89 anyway but just so I have an idea how many empties I should be hauling around.

Anything else I ought to know? Thanks!

I've been twice - both on Fridays recently and arrived at opening around noon. There were 3 to 4 ipas/dipas on tap each time. All of the beers I have had were nothing short of incredible -- all hazy juicy and more Trillium than Alchemist. Martian Moon/Glimpse/Mas Verde/The Rise/Feet First Citra are the ones I remember. They pour small samples of all of the beers and I'm pretty sure you can bring your own growlers -- but I'm not positive as both visits I took away their bottles. Absolutely zero social media presence-- although they do now appear to be doing limited posts on their Facebook page. No lines -- a few regulars each time I was there. Big Fatty's BBQ is next door and has a very good tap list -- can't vouch for the food as both visits I saved my appetite for Worthy Burger. Cheers and good luck !

I know, I see the pictures and they make me thirst! I was going to ask to compare and contrast with Hill Farmstead or whoever but, hell, who am I kidding, I'm going to be stopping anyway, because it looks to just be a few minutes out of my way.

    Thanks.

I stopped at Big Fattys on the way back from Hill Farmstead a month ago. They had Glimpse on tap and it was absolutely killer. I didn't have time to go into the brewery and I already had a big lot of full HF growlers, but it will definitely be a stop next time.

Btw- there's a bottle shop inside Big Fattys with a great selection of VT brews.

Usually about 4 brews on. Mostly hoppy, but they do have other varieties from time to time. I have only filled their screw tops, but I have seen other screw tops filled. I don't recall seeing a swing top filled, but it can't hurt to ask. The owner/brewer is very friendly.

He will pour you samples to try the brews before you choose what to fill. I have never been disappointed.

The crowler pit at Big Fatty's usually has some good options for crowler fills too. They carry Foley, Frost, Burlington Beer Co. etc. in cans/bottles as well.

beers are on point, stop in for a growler. Thunder Melon (100% Mosaic Lupulin Powder) is phenomenal.

They fill swing tops, last time I was there someone was getting foam swing top 750's filled. Everything I've had from them has ranged from very good to great, with glimpse being my favorite so far. Juncture was pretty super as well.

Yeah, Mark will fill them all. If you do bring the small mouth screw tops (like, say, Trillium growlers), bring your own tops. If you FB message him he is great about getting back to you about what is on tap. It was pretty limited as of late last week (3-beers), but I am sure he has more on deck.

    Thank you all!

By the way, this thread should properly have been titled '411 Request.' I was looking for information, not reporting an emergency. Sometimes finding beer can be very, very important but, at least so far, it hasn't required any kind of emergency response.

Titling this "911" got me concerned enough to read this right away, even though I would have read it anyway, or tomorrow that is. I also look forward to stopping by River Roost someday to refill a growler of theirs, kindly provided to me as an extra in a trade by one of the folks referenced in this thread, and am glad know in the meantime that my high school CPR training, fire rescue skills and the like will be unnecessary - I'm in Boston area anyway. Cheers!

Something else you should know is that Foam is celebrating their 1 year anniversary on Friday and Saturday with lots of local bands and DJs and a Black Dot release. It's going to be INSANELY busy. They already have crazy lines and this is going to make it nearly unbearably crowded, if you aren't really into the throngs of people sort of deal. They are releasing a special DIPA for the event, however, so if you want to bring home something special, it may be worth it.

Crap! I'm totally not into throngs of people! But it's right on the way so I guess I'll swing by. Thanks for the heads-up.

It's definitely not my scene, that's for sure. Friday should at least be more mellow than Saturday, when a very popular local band will be hosting live karaoke. I won't be there for either day, because I like a little breathing and elbow room when enjoying tasty beer

I'm not a super line guy but if there's a line I'm willing to wait in in VT it's Foam. It's that good.

I would consider this extremely helpful. Sorry that you, not being the OP, didn't.

I think it refers to not helping keep the crowd down.

Surely that crowd will be bigger because of my singular discouraging input

I picture the cat in your avatar speaking your posts with the voice of Mr. Magoo. It is kind of amusing.
