Hey new forum-mates! I am moving my stuff from Texas to Manhattan this weekend & was wondering if anyone had suggestions on breweries to hit en route. I don't have too much time to go far out of my way but I have a couple of variations to the route according to Google. I live in a town south of Austin so I'm going to swing by Jester one last time (fingers crossed for an Atrial release this Friday #doubtful) & then visit my friend in the Fort Worth area. So i'll be taking off from Haslet, TX & heading to a place off 133rd & Amsterdam St in Manhattan. The first leg has me going to Nashville but the second leg is where it varies. It seems to suggest a southern route that goes through Virginia or a northern route that takes me through Kentucky, Ohio & Pennsylvania. There are brewpubs along both routes but want to ensure that I am not missing out on a big one that would be somewhat on the way somewhere. Any advice is appreciated. I look forward to trolling these threads & seeing yall at an Other Half release soon! -Joey
@joeyfeets is a great addition to the NYC forum. Already did a great trade last time he was up this way. Safe travels man! Dibs on Atrial!
I don't know anything about Kentucky/Ohio but if you go the VA route then it looks like it's a very quick detour to Asheville, NC, where you could hit up Wicked Weed, among others. Once you get on 81 up to Harrisburg, PA it'd be a pretty quick side trip to Pizza Boy. I did that when I was on a long drive south from NYC along 81, and was underwhelmed personally but I figured it was worth it at least once.
Thanks all. Yea Wicked Weed is not a bad detour on that Southern route. I don't get any distro on them out here but I do see it trade well. Any ideas on things to keep an eye out for there? Also anything that might see distro in NC/VA that is not as North as NYC? Might as well pop into a few stores while I'm there.
Wicked Weed Freak of Nature is a great DIPA. They also have incredible sours. The 2 bottle shops in town I know of (Appalachian Vinter & Bruisin Ales) were both good. Bruisin has an online ordering which saved me time If you decide to make the stop there check the South-Atlantic forum. Lots of info on there and very helpful people.
I don't believe so. I just don't have the time for big detours. My work is putting the clamps on me to get into the office asap. I plan on taking many road trips once I get settled in there though. What's in STL?
Thank you so much! I was planning on at least hitting a bottle shop if the timing of me passing through didn't sync up with their tasting room hours. This is extremely helpful.
Maybe think about going from Nashville Tennessee to Columbus Ohio, then to New York City. That opens up Columbus and Cleveland area breweries and only adds a couple hours.
