Moving from Boston, MA to the Detroit area. We will be driving via 90 through NY, PA and OH. We are looking to stop at a few breweries along the way to grab a pour and/or cans. Looking for more hidden gems or up and coming places. We already have on the list of possibilities some of the well known breweries: Treehouse, Other Half, Mortalis, Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks!

I've got some hidden gems for you for sure.

Woodland Farm Brewing: Only 2-3 miles off 90 on the other side of Utica and for my money they do big/BA beers as well as anyone in the state and they kill it across every possible style. You want a goddamn beautiful barleywine, scotch ale, baltic porter, etc, this is your place. They also do very creative things on the farmhouse/saison side and have great lower-ABV options with blondes/viennas/etc. They do NEIPAs well too, but all their to-go options will be dark beers or sours. Big outdoor space too and just a few miles from great food in Utica. Get tomato pie at Roma's.

Buried Acorn Brewing: Only 2-3 miles off 90 in Syracuse. Another spot that does a bunch of styles and all super well but their farmhouses are where they shine incredibly bright. Had a stellar grisette aged in white wine barrels from them recently that was just a perfect summer beer. Lot of good bottled options to go and they do can IPAs too.

Prison City Brewing: 8-9 miles off 90 in Auburn, makes some of the best IPAs in New York and you cannot really get them far outside of Auburn. Will sometimes have can options but you can always do crowlers/growlers to go.

    No problem!

    I would also potentially add:

Kismet Brewing: I haven't been but apparently doing very nice fruited sours just off the Mass Pike in Westfield. Cans to go. Only Saturday hours right now tho so may not line up for you.

    I would also DEFINITELY add:

Westmere Beverage in Albany: Only a couple miles off the 90/87 interchange and it's literally the best beer store in the Northeast (or anywhere else I've traveled) as far as I'm concerned. Just an absolutely bonkers selection, good prices and an extremely knowledgeable staff. Unlike some stores (Yankee Spirits, looking your way) they'll let you do single cans/bottles of everything in the store. No exceptions. You could blow $200 on stuff that doesn't come to MA without even blinking.

Any other questions (beer/food/beer stores/etc) let me know, I'm extremely familiar with the I-90 corridor from Boston to Buffalo.

I knew you'd show up with some winners along 90. I agree with all of these. I think Buried Acorn is doing the best things up that way with funky farmhouse style.

Cleveland has great options. Stop at the Brew Kettle for a triple pig sam
Prison City has incredible food, too.

Cleveland area is amazing. Brew Kettle for a quieter experience (Triple Pig sandwich is insane) and there’s also Fat Heads.

Yes! to Brew Kettle. Great draft selection, their brews and guests. Had a meatloaf hoagie there and immediately needed like a 4 hour nap. Market area pretty good too

Based on your original list you would like Prison City. I do not think you would like Buried Acorn.

As somebody that also really likes Treehouse, OH and Mortalis… that is a pretty big presumption of somebody's tastes.
