I will be driving from cleveland area to topsail nc and was wondering if there are any breweries I should stop at on the way down. Also, any good beer stores to stop at

It would help a lot if you'd tell us what route you're taking. That way, you won't get recommendations for every brewery & bottle shop in NC.

Assuming you are taking I77 down to 40 then to the beach. Brewery-wise there are a ton of good to very good breweries in the Raleigh-Durham area. My personal favorites are Fullsteam, Raleigh Brewing, Trophy Brewing (also great pizza) and Bull City Burger & Brewing (great food as well). Store wise just go to Bestway in greensboro and Sams Quick Shop in Durham and you should find anything you are looking for.

Also wanted to note that if you wanted to go slightly out of your way you could go to Foothills in Winston Salem, but I don't think it's worth the amount of time it would take (i'd rather go to the previously mentioned Bull City or Trophy for beer/food, but that's just me). Once you are out of the raleigh area on I40 there is pretty much nothing unless you go out of your way and go to Wilmington (though beer wise there isn't much i'd go out of my way for in Wilmington).

Also, if you are in the Jacksonville/Morehead, N.C. area a MUST STOP would be @ Harrikas in Cedar Point, N.C.. One hell of a great bottle shop with 4 active taps (named one of the top 100 bars in the US 3 years in a row). Prost

I'd second the emotion on Trophy Brewing. Great Food, Great Brews, and the owners are solid down to earth people who I gladly spend my $$$ with when I am in the area.

Mother Earth is solid for sure, just assumed he wouldn't be driving by Kinston.

If you are going I76 to I95, you might as well make a pit stop in Philly. The best place for beer on the east coast by far... well worth the trip.

That's a two hour drive round trip from where the OP is planning to go and not on any direct route between Ohio & Topsail. I know you're trying to be helpful, but if I was the OP, I wouldn't drive an extra two hours on a vacation just to hit a bottle shop when I passed plenty of them on the way down.

It's an hour from Topsail, but if you find yourself in Wilmington -- come see me at Fermental! Currently only 2 rotating taps, but lots of awesome beers in bottle form. There's also Front Street Brewery in the downtown area, along with Cape Fear Wine & Beer.

I'd agree, BUT Harrika's is not just another bottle shop, perhaps they are ticking off the top 100 beer bars in the US. lol Cheerz from RNBz

    Philly as in Philadelphia, PA
The place where I76 and I95 intersect.
The route the OP was contemplating, redneck.

    Pit stop in Philly!? Seriously!?

The I-76 to I-95 route would logically mean getting off I-76 at Breezewood, PA onto route 70. Philly. at that point is 180 miles and another 150 miles to join I-95 where it meets I-70.

330 miles extra is one hell of a pit stop.

Seriously, folks. It's probably like a 12 hr drive to Topsail depending on where in Ohio he's starting from. I know everyone is trying to be helpful, but can we just deal with the route the OP is taking and not give him side trips involving hours of extra driving?

He doesn't have to listen to those suggestions, people are just trying to be friendly.

I know North Carolina geography, otherwise I am like in the 14th century where everything outside of the rock of Gibralter was the end of the earth.
