Thanks everybody for all the recs! Stopped at SLV in Alamosa, had a flight of 10 for $8.99, which seemed crazy cheap. Good stuff mostly. Then took 285 north, beautiful drive, stopped at Elevation which was a scenic spot, but didn't have time for Eddyline. Once I got to Frisco, had that incredible DIPA from Backcountry, Fix Your Heel.

On the way back, I'll probably take the other route back through Colorado Springs, so I may give Trinity a go.

If you're still underway, another good little place in CO Springs is Great Storm Brewing, they don't have food in house, but there's a Dominos next door, try their Rum Raisin Stout-very tasty.

^^^ The Rum Raisin Stout at GSB was the only thing I found to be any good, but to be fair, it's been almost a year since I have been there. Way better places to see in Colorado Springs!

Ok I'm back from Colorado and I only had time to visit one brewery - Copper Kettle. Loved their beers. But they practically begged me NOT to get my growler filled and taken back to California. They said it would practically be ruined by that time (about a week later). Total hyperbole, and I wanted to give them money for their excellent beer, but if they don't want me to, then I won't, and didn't. Bummer. And strange.

I guess I can kinda understand that - they want their beer reflected in the most positive light possible and a week-old growler fill isn't that. I was just there myself on Wednesday for the first time and it won me over as one of my new favorite tap rooms in Denver.

Simple Explanation: They would rather deny selling you the beer than have you take it somewhere and get the wrong impression of what they want you to experience. After all, they only lost a sale of one growler. However, if you wanted to buy 20 kegs, you may not have gotten the same answer.

I understand where they're coming from and I suppose it probably comes down to what beer you wanted to buy and what kind of growler you had, too.
The older glass with a twist-off metal cap kinds aren't very forgiving...especially if you wanted a fill of helles, dunkel, or pils. However if you're rockin' a hydroflask, Miir or something similar and wanted a Mexican Chocolate, Well Bred, or Snowed In...different story.

Trinity for sure, fuck any haters who avoid them just because their owner is kind of a douche. I live ten minutes up the road from them and go there at least once a month. Fieldhouse and Iron Bird both have nice tap rooms serving up some solid offerings. Bristol at Ivywild is worth a stop for no other reason than Ivywild is a really cool place. Nano 108 is also a great stop tucked away on the SE part of town.

If you have any specific questions feel free to hit me up!

Out of curiosity, if you look on the Backcountry website, why are all their beers listed as "formerly known as"? They're all listed just with the style name, like "Wheat" - formerly known as Wheeler Wheat, or "Pilsner" formerly Ptarmigan Pilsner.

Did they get in trouble with copyright or something on the names? The excellent DIPA doesn't have a name, though Untappd has it as Fix Your Heel Double IPA 2.0

When they decided to start packaging (2 years ago?) they went proactive on "non"-naming their beers in order to avoid potential TM fiascoes. I don't think they had any at the time, but may as well play it safe. It also helps on package design. If you have all five six packs on a shelf, it's an eye-catcher! Can't say that with many other brands b/c of the diverse names and artwork

Fix Your Heel is their dIPA - I think names are only used on site.

    How'd I do, Alan?

Yes, something like that. Ownership wanted to keep it simple for a variety of reasons. We're weird brewer people so we still like naming beers. For instance, our new English Barleywine is, "Suck It, Trebek." If we are working on a new label, sometimes we try to sneak the name into the description on the side.

As an aside, Fix Your Heel comes from some bumper stickers you see around Summit County. It's a Telemark skiing vs. Alpine skiing thing. One bumper sticker reads "Free Your Heel, Free Your Mind." That's the Telemark sticker. The Alpine response to that was, "Fix Your Heel, Fix Your Problem," and since our Pale Ale used to be Telemark IPA, there you have it.

We use names here at the brewery, at festivals, and yes, on Untappd (that thing is a big can of worms).

Thanks for the info! Understand the desire for simplicity, but I'd be hard pressed not to name everything too.

But then, most people tell me I'm just puns of fun.

Incidentally, what sort of hops do you guys use in that DIPA? It was fantastic! I'm guessing some Mosaic.

We're (I'm) supposedly always serious around here...
