My wife and I will be heading to Davenport Iowa in April. Driving from PA, looking to make some stops on the way. Suggestions?

What's your probable route(s) across OH, IN, IL?

Probably your first priority should be 3 Floyds in Munster, IN. Try to plan your timing to have a meal there (weekends are VERY busy and a line may be involved), and then some bottles to go if there is no line (assuming 30-60 minutes in line might not be what you want).

Consider a short detour into Michigan to New Buffalo (about 10 miles north off of I-80 right in the SW corner of MI) to pick up stuff from Short's and Odd Side that isn't found outside of Michigan (for now). Barney's New Buffalo Pharmacy and Bud & Elsie's are the stores to check out. Or a longer detour of about 40 miles to jump up to Kalamazoo to Bell's. Coming through the Cleveland area I'd suggest stopping at Fat Heads, but you may get their stuff in PA. Their tap offerings of choices not distributed are still a reason to go there. The Brew Kettle is an excellent second choice if you don't want to stop at Fat Heads.

For Chicago and westward, someone else will have to chime in on those recommendations. A lot of the Chicago places may depend on how far off of I-80 you're willing to go.

I'd say stop off at 18th Street - they have a new facility in Hammond, IN. I haven't been to that one, just their original location in Gary, which you could also do, but I think is more of a detour than their new location based on your route.

As for Chicago, I doubt you'll want to make the detour up to the city for any of the breweries here such as Revolution or Half Acre, so you might just want to stop at the nearest Binny's along I-80. There is a new Binny's in Mokena, which doesn't look too far off your direct route. I have no idea what their selection is like there, but it seems like it'd be a pretty convenient stop for you to get stuff from places like Pipeworks, Revolution, Half Acre or anything else you might not have access to in PA.

EOS Hefewiezen from Nebraska Brewing is very good, if you happen across it in your travels...
