Come this January, my girlfriend is heading to Kansas City for a friend's wedding, and since I'll be the chauffeur, I'll be there myself. Of course, I figure this will be an opportune time to grab some beer I can't get here in Cincinnati. There's a couple no-brainer stops like Boulevard (which is nowhere to be found in Ohio or northern Kentucky), but I was curious what else might be around that I should look into. Any can't-miss suggestions?
I assume you've looked into this, but in case you haven't, here's a link to information on touring the brewery: http://www.boulevard.com/brewery/brewery-tours/
If you are on the MO side Perrinal, Odell, 4 hands, Crooked stave, Jester King. Hit up Royal on state line or Lukas . PM if you have any questions. I would be glad to help you more.
Well, I tried out a few places - the Flying Saucer, Bier Station, KC Bier Company, and Beer Kitchen #1, and got my hands on a fair selection of Boulevard, Odells, Crooked Stave, Tallgrass, and some other stuff not readily found back in the unkempt tundra of Cincinnati. Courtesy of a Gomer's, my trunk is full up for the drive back as well. Thanks to everyone for the help!
Good question. I got to BS for a bit with one of brewers at KC Bier Co. about their processes (and have plenty of lagers, so woo!), thought the food was fantastic and tap list well curated at Beer Kitchen (even if their menu lied about Abraxas being on tap), thought Bier Station's selection was good and feel was mellow, and enjoyed the $2 all-day parking garage next to the Saucer (although the grand unveiling of plates hung on the wall for ticking a mere 200 different beers seemed a bit melodramatic). Didn't manage to get in a Boulevard tour, so I'll have to settle for bringing home some Dark Truth and Sixth Glass. Darn the luck.
