Here's the link to Weyerbacher where you can get more info for your planning in case you are able to stop there while in Easton.

Don't think they do free samples any more but there are small portion servings available for sale and I think they'll give you tasting portions to try before you buy.

I'm a little south of Pittsburgh and take advantage of 43-->70-->Turnpike-->81, but I'll map your suggestions as there isn't much difference in total trip time really. Usually try to avoid 22 because I hate its guts (and 99 too; 80 is okay), but we should be leaving early enough that it will be moot.

Wife wants to spend a day in New York--show the kids, but it sounds like a pain in the ass to me (wish we had more time), so figured I'd belly up at Blind Tiger or the like. Barrier is just too much trouble to get to, but I've heard good things of Other Half, so I'll map that one. Thanks.

Leaving tomorrow and have narrowed down a most likely list. Weyerbacher (it's so close to Crayola, it'd be criminal to miss) and one or more of the following in NYC: Other Half, Threes and Transmitter (time permitting, with chances better if the kids take a nap as we near our destination, which is their MO).

Peekskill and Newburgh on the way up to Wappingers Falls. Newburgh may not be in the most desirable location, but their beers seem to be generally favorably reviewed--though their website is collecting spiderwebs (closed Christmas!). Thanks to all who lent their suggestions.

Scroll up and follow Cavedave's advice for the Wappingers area, he covered it to a tee. Only thing I might differ on is Newburgh - if you go during the afternoon it's perfectly safe and it's a really super cool place to hang, with a nice view of the river, kid friendly, lots of board games to play, often live music, solid food.

The comment about Tawana was deleted because it was a joke, in bad taste. Google Tawana Brawley and you'll see what that's all about, dark story from Wappingers' past.

Had no idea. Just Googled it. So...that's quite awful.

@cavedave was awesomely thorough and I will revisit his suggestions. Thanks all around.

It's pretty much all been said: Newburgh (safe, get there from South Water St), Sloop (get it at Half Time, a great store where you can buy singles of everything), Capt. Lawrence (on way up from NYC), Rushing Duck (my current favorite brewery in the area, but maybe a little bit out of your way and their tap room isn't much, try some is you see it on tap somewhere), can't go wrong with the other breweries mentioned as well.

We have a decent beer scene currently going on here in the Hudson Valley.

Most impressive beers in the Hudson Valley in the past year, for me, have come out of the Brewery at Bacchus in New Paltz. Very very pricey for growler fills but just terrific stuff. I brought a growler of their Pumpkin Berliner (with pumpkin syrup) to tailgate at a Giants game and it was one of the more memorable beers of 2014 (the game, I'd like to forget).

Very excited to have Dan Suarez opening a brewery in the area in the (near?) future!

Hit Weyerbacher while the kids were napping between Crayola visits; could've drank the Tarte Nouveau with Blood Oranges to the dregs, given its ABV and the nice day outside. Also found time in Easton to stop by Porter's Pub, Maxim 22 and Two Rivers. Though the latter is two months out from offering house beers, we were able to find several beers between the three restaurants that we don't have (or don't have easy access to) in Pittsburgh.

Peekskill might have been my highlight of the trip. Between the wife and I, we were able to sample our way through the tap list and take two growlers with us (Ryezome and Higher Standard).

Also braved a trip to Newburgh (wife dropped me off on the way to outlets [cliché!]) and left with Paper Box, Hop Drop and Checkpoint Charlie. Spent most of the time in Wappingers consuming growlers and didn't make it up to Half Time regrettably. Did visit a beverage place in Fishkill and came away with some Knee Deep and Baxter.

    Thanks all for the suggestions.

We've returned from the trip, but we found that his suggestions were spot on--I wish only we had the time to investigate more of them. Next time.
