Rebel Brewer is just outside Nashville in Goodlettsville. They do mostly mail order, and they have a huge supply of grain, hops, and yeast that are fresher than the other stores in the area. If you're up for a 50-lb bag, they have really good deals. We usually order online or by phone and then pick up.

Hop City in Birmingham really impressed me with their bottle selection, tap list for pints and growlers, and they have home brewing supplies. I am not a home brewer so I can't vouch for the selection or quality of their supplies, but they are there. Definitely don't miss going there for the beer though. Drink a couple, shop the shelves, and get a growler filled- you won't be sorry.

Whether you are passing through or live in the Birmingham area, don't miss stopping at ALABREW in Pelham, meet Kim and SueAn, shop the store and ask all the questions you want ... they are both experts and love helping new home brewers along the path to great personally-brewed beer and wine. Kim has won several awards for his beers and can work you up a fresh ingredient kit for just about any beer you want to brew. I have been following Kim's brewing advice for three 5-gallon batches so far (eg., don't boil your LME/DME but instead add them to your brew pot, off heat, after boiling your hops - eliminates the potential for boil over and produces a better beer) and I have had excellent results. Kim's makes-sense recommendations have come through for me every time. Stop by ALABREW - you'll be glad to did.
