If at Aslin, I'd go to ocelot too...

    Add strangeways to Richmond too.

RAR on the eastern shore of MD and Burley Oak added if you go that route for DFH.

While the Ale Houses are fine places, they are not owned by DFH, rather licenses out and no where near the same experience as you'd get from the Brew Pub or the Brewery. If you go this. Down 113 then there are a lot of breweries right off 113 worth a stop. As stated above Burley Oak is great and a must stop. Others off of 113 (within 10 miles.) in Southern DE. Misspillion in Milford, DE. 16 Mile in Georgetown, DE. If you go through Rehoboth to the DFH Brewpub a new brewery has just opened call Revelation and they are putting out some fine beer and is worth a stop if you are in Rehoboth.

By the way, this is no eye roller, the DFH experience is awesome, especially the brew put when they have about 4-5 exclusives on tap, and 2 from their archives. The food is pretty good too.

Thanks! I've noticed weird vibes and reactions from people over the past couple of years if we're talking about favorite breweries and I mention Dogfish Head, so I've just come to accept and expect it. It just seems like Dogfish isn't quite as "cool" as it once was to a certain segment of beer people. Maybe it's the old story of the garage band that made it big. But, I'm still a big fan. I do wish they'd do some new stuff, though; it's been a while since I've seen a release from them that turned my head. It's fair enough to say they aren't as edgy and creative as they were a few years ago.

Their new SeaQuenchAle is quite good, and they are bottling this fall their beer for breakfast, brewed with Scrapple. (FYI, not a schill for them, just a long time fan, since day one.) Screw what others think, beer is all about what you enjoy.

    Well said! Cheers!

    Looking forward to SeaQuench Ale!

If you're passing by Harrisburg on this route (whether you take Rt-15 or I-81) Troegs in Hershey is a good place to check out. Troegs opened a new brewery and tasting room recently and they are one of the older craft brewers, since the early 90's.

FWIW, I think Pizza Boy is a nice low-key spot for locals to grab good beer, decent pizza, and fill growlers, but I would not consider it a travel-worthy beer destination. Pizza Boy's ~75 beers on tap is impressive but if you're traveling by car you probably won't be able to take advantage of the array of taps without being over the legal limit to drive; and you could find better than pizza for food too.

All true, but for what it's worth their pizza is the best I've had in Central PA and would probably even extend that into Baltimore. If you're into the NY style pizza.

I'll start by saying I'm a definite fan of Pizza Boy, but to me their pizza never quite lives up to the hype I see attached to it here and various other places. Obviously, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the food there (for me) is just "good enough to keep me drinking," if that makes sense. I go there on average twice a week, and usually eat before I go.

On the other hand, Troegs is another place I am a fan of and visit too much. Their food is probably the best food I've had at a brewery/brewpub, period.

Both places have great beer. As far as food is concerned, it really comes down to how important it is to you. Also, consider that if you are coming down 81, Pizza Boy is probably less than 0.5 miles from 81. To get to Troegs from 81, you'd probably have to get off at the exit for the Casino (is it exit 80?), go down 743 for maybe 15 minutes, and then afterwards either backtrack north to hit 81 again, or cross the river via 83/581 to hit it again. Depending on when and what day, that could be a mess relative to just hopping back on 81 in two minutes.

Not a vote for one over the other, just things I would consider.

I think I actually go to Pizza Boy more for the food than the beer. Admittedly I've only had a few things off the menu so I can't speak to the diversity of it. But if you're into NY style pizza it's the best I've had outside of the NY/NJ area. The wings are awesome too.

Shamelessly bumping this thread due to an upcoming drive that will take me past Harrisburg. Locals, anything particularly good from Pizza Boy lately?

Also, I saw that they had started canning a few of their beers - are cans typically available, and what do cans/bottles/growlers/crowlers usually run?
