Hey guys in the next few days going to be traveling from Staten Island, NY to Virginia Beach, VA. Was wondering if anyone knew/could recommend some breweries to stop at on the way. I thought who better than to ask than beer advocate members.

Thanks guys. Any recommendations are great! =D

Tired Hands Fetmentaria in Philly is definitely worth a stop.

I'd also check the "Nearby" feature on the app frequently during your trip. That's one of the best features. I've gotten two non-BA people to download the app just for that.

Looking at the route, I'd definitely hit Burley Oak....

If you're taking the nj turnpike to delaware memorial bridge, philly is close enough to on your way. Might want to check out spellbound in mount holly. If you're taking the gsp to the cape may ferry, dogfish head is not far out of your way.

Carton is not to far away from the Turnpike, about 30 minutes. Kane is about 30 minutes south from there, but then about an hour from the Turnpike (but you can take the Cape May ferry and then be close to the Dogfish Head brewery & The Brewpub, two different worthwhile places to visit). I would definitely stop by Dogfish Head, you can always take the Cheasepeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to Virginia Beach (much better than taking 95 south just south of Washington DC is a nightmare for beach traffic as early as 7:00am). Have fun!

Excellent advice. He should just take the Parkway instead of the Turnpike. Cape May brewing is also worth going to and there are a few others near the Parkway. The only drawback would be the cost of putting a car on the Cape May Ferry!

Bah! I take the ferry every time we go to Rehoboth. Much more relaxing/fun way to go. Worth the extra money.

Haven't taken it in a number of years whats it cost now. If you time it well one can cut about 3 hours off a trip to Virginia Beach.

I did a trip to Dogfish Head/Mispillion/16 Mile. Stayed over night. Next day, had majestic brunch buffet at some place near the ferry and then took it over. Worth the money. After that, went straight to Cape May.

I really didn't feel like doing that drive back on a Sunday either, so it was a nice change of pace.

It's about $50 more or less depending on passengers, day of week, time of year. But hey, no driving, less gas used, nice scenery.

@brkfrnr03 if you provide the exact route you are taking we will likely be more helpful to you.

    Cheers!

Definitely agree with dhartogs... Burley Oak (Berlin, MD), Evolution (Salisbury, MD) and Dogfish Head in Milton DE is a must see (may be a wee bit out of the way but you won't regret it).

If you're really wanting to hit some good breweries/aren't strapped for time/don't mind traffic, I'd take the I-95 route instead of the 13 South route. Go that way and you could hit (in addition to the Philly breweries already mentioned) Union in Baltimore, Aslin just outside of DC, and The Answer/The Veil/Hardywood Park in Richmond.

Turnpike and hitting tired hands or parkway and hitting Kane/Carton tough call. Although, there is a good chance you could get a buttload of cans for your vacation from Kane (head high) and carton. Good chance of the Eldorado odub getting released Thursday. Maybe even some boat
