I was lukewarm about their last Pale Ale (Chill Kit) too, but damned if it wasn't good.

What I've found out about RT is that their versatility is their strength.

I have no doubt it will be, at worst, a solid beer. I'm just not seeking this style out currently, hence my very, very mild disappointment!

Won't be long before they add something new.

Festbier season is in sight.

Really hoping they package some pale lagers again soon. I need to stock up.

I need to revisit their Helles after trying Art History's and More's.

Though not quite pale, I highly recommend the Vienna if you haven't already tried it.

FWIW -- and seeing you're in WI, the Gurnee Binny's has RT Pils in stock. Can't vouch for canning dates, but I enjoyed the RT Fest well into February of the following year of its last release.

Just got an email notice that RT Helles has been canned again and will be available this Thursday. Along with the Rice Lager collab with Art History -- I'll leave that one for the rest of you as rice likker doesn't sit well with me.

Also being released is an Imperial Pastry Stout and Hazy IPA -- again, if you're inclined to lean that way.

Looks like this one wasn't your favorite last spring (although you hardly trashed it or anything)...I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it this time around! I look forward to trying it.

I'll probably grab one can of each on the rice lager, haze-r and pastry boi. Roaring Table has at least earned that.

It's like Dovetail's Helles to me -- I love it on tap, but it loses something when canned.

Neither of them are as good as what I enjoyed in Munich (and I really don't taste the effect of decoction in Dovetail's), but yeah -- they're highly drinkable.

I can’t remember if their helles is decocted. It’s at most single decocted. Their Pilsner is triple decocted. I think the house lager gets more than 1 as well. (Going off memory from a tour with Hagen a few years ago)

Going from Ron Pattinson's comment here:

Maybe if the Helles is only a single, that's why I find it thin in character. However, I just found some fresh H-P Munich Gold and the flavor confirms what I always find missing in American attempts at Helles.

I want to do a side-by with the H-P, More, Art History, and RT -- when their next batch of Helles comes out.

Ok, RTB Vienna is the real deal. It's malty, a little sweet, but with a pleasant roasted malt zing that brings it all together.
Really mad that I only got a can from BOTW, hopefully RT still have some left.

Stopped by for $2 off 4-packs yesterday and scooped up:
    - Rice lager
    - More RTB vienna (of course)
    - Rotor Glow
    - Masters of their Fates

Curious to see where their new NEIPA is at, it's one of the first they've added to the lineup since Tuba Solo so it's gotta be decent!

I didn't love it. However, I'm kind of phasing out of the style altogether, so your mileage may definitely vary.

It tastes like orange soda to me.

EDIT: I did enjoy the Rice Lager more than I expected!!

No Helles? I have a beer run planned for tomorrow -- hoping to find the Helles.

I usually would, I'm just kind of picking up any "must have's" for me since I have 5 gallons of a pilsner and a corn lager that I brewed haha. Lagers are a plenty!

Helles in the Haus -- Okay, not my favorite Munich-brewed Helles, and maybe not perfectly spot-on to style, but this is drinking pretty good.

It's got more of a hop bitterness bite than I look for in a Helles, but it doesn't go full-on Pilsner. I wish it had some bready malt like Munich Helles, but it does have a nice crackery spine to it.

On top of all that -- it's just about as drinkable as any beer ought to be -- smooth and refreshing with a great elegance of flavors that says beer, but doesn't slap you in the face with extreme character.

I agree with a lot of what you said about RTB Helles. Though it's a one & done for me. It was too bitter hiding all the awesome malt underneath the hops. Could use more balance.

Great to textured Helles & very good drinkability / light bodied.

Interesting. I'm pretty hypersensitive to hoppy bitterness in beer -- and I get the RT is more bitter than the usual Helles, but I didn't find this new batch so overpowering -- especially since some of the Munich Helles seem to be pushing up their bitterness.

I have a very fresh can of H-P Munich Gold that I want to try alongside the RT -- should be telling.

But one and done? I could probably drink the RT Helles all night... if they didn't have other beers to sample!

Yeah, when we have Dovetail & Goldfinger so easily available to us in the Chicagoland area... I think that I would rather have one of those Helles lagers over the RTB Helles.

I bought a single can to try of RTB Helles & don't need to go out of my way to grab more. When the next fresh batch of RTB Pils gets brewed, you bet that I will be getting a minimum of a 4 pack of that beer!
