Any recommendations? I used to drink Steelhead Extra Stout all the time when it was distro to me for its insane amount of roast and dry character. Any recommendations to seek out for beers like this?

I always thought Schlafly's Irish-Style Stout was pretty darned roasty.

Sierra Nevada Stout. Probably their Porter too, but I haven't had it in a while.

Sierra Stout, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, i know its not a stout, but its close enough. Founders Oatmeal Stout on Nitro has a nice sweet roasty flavor to it as well.

Another one you can only get in FL and Pittsburgh is Rooney's Old Irish Style Ale, its an Irish Red, but it has a very nice roasted character to it. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I had it.

Avery Out of Bounds Stout and
    North Coast Old #38 Stout

both have a very generous amount of roast character. You'll have to decide yourself if it's insane enough , but they should definitely fit the bill.

Great one, plus it just showed up at stores this week. Gotta get some soon...

+1 on Obsidian Stout. Not my cup of tea, but it sounds like it might be yours.

I love Steelhead's Extra. I'd say Founders Porter and Anchor Porter are similar.

Jailhouse Brewing's Breakout Stout is loaded with big roasted, almost burnt, malt. It's a Georgia brewery so they might distribute to Florida but I'm not sure.
