I have a case of Rochefort 10 brewed August 2013, and it's not tasting very good. Has anybody cracked one open recently? I'm worried I got a bad batch. Its either that or this beer is going through a dumb phase in its progression.

I love Rochefort 10 fresh and at 2 years, and I just enjoyed a two year old Gouden Carolous Blauw, two year old St Bernardus 12, and a two year old Westmalle. they all tasted great.

These beers have all been cellared together. the Rochefort has an almost minty oxidation taste that overpowers everything else.

I had one about six months ago and it was fantastic, better than fresh IMO.

I just bought a few 10s and 8s to cellar (not a whole case though, that's pretty badass). I'd love to hear some opinions on how long to age / how they change over time. I'm going to put a vertical together no matter what, since I love them fresh, but I've never heard of a bad experience like the OP had. Anyone else experience a "dumb phase" with them? I hope this doesn't come across as hijacking the thread.

In Ontario Rochefort 10 is 3.65 per bottle at the LCBO, so a case is affordable. I going to assume quads need at least two years if not fresh.

Wow, in Buffalo 8 is $6 and 10 is $7. Thanks for the heads up. next time I go to Ontario I'm going go grab a case. I love that stuff.

In Patrick Dawson's book "Vintage Beers", He and an experienced tasting panel tasted fresh through 10 year old (maybe older, but they don't list data for bottles older than 10 years because bottle to bottle variations become so great) vintages of Rochefort 10 and they all agree that this beer is best at 5 years old (better than fresh).

You better hurry. LCBO (all of Ontario) has less than 1,000 bottles now from the bit over 10,000 brought in a month and a bit ago. Case is $87.60 CAD so around $75.00 USD or so. You need to pretty much drive to Toronto but that's only an hour and a half from Buffalo if not a long wait at the border. From what I remember it's around $2.00 duty for you to bring it back with you.

    Enjoy!
