I haven't really had a beer from another brewery that's much like 6, I guess 8 could be compared to Chimay Blue or St Bernardus Prior and with 10 maybe St Bernardus Abt, though the Rochefort is a fair bit stronger.

I do think the Rochefort beers are more like each other than anything else, though.

Thanks for the kind words, Jack. In this case it's probably more that coriander is one of those ingredients that I use a lot, and have become adept at picking out as a result. I think that Rochefort uses it very skillfully, and it does add a very nice quality to the beer as a result.

It's been a while since I've had Rochefort 10. I remember it being a little too carbonated until it rested in a glass for a few minutes. Very complex, hints of dates and plums and dark sugars. Paired well with imported cheese and fancy crackers. Can't really compare it to other quads because it's in a league of its own, IMO. Just try it, you won't be disappointed.

Rochefort 10 is my favorite beer period. I drink them sparingly so I won't burn out. That being said, I've found a decent substitute to be Malheur 12 among the others listed above.

Like many people above, I love Rochefort10 (if you can't tell). It's my #1 fav beer. Compared head-to-head with a Westy12, I still preferred the Rochefort. I also agree that nothing compares, but there are definitely other good quads. Westy is the obvious choice, but I also enjoyed Boulevard's Sixth Glass, and do like a Chimay blue from time to time. Don't know how I've never tried a St Bernardus ABT12. I've gotta get on that!

I tried the Westy 12 & Rochefort 10 side-by-side. Both are very similar in style and taste. I gave the nod for best beer to Westy by a hair, but for the price and availability I am happy to keep my cellar stocked with Rochfort.

After all this talk, I may have to drink my 10 that I have in the back of the cellar. Although, I love me some Abt. 12!

I had a 2008 (I think) Grand Reserve while in Belgium a few years ago and it was ridiculously good. I cracked open a 2011 Pannepot yesterday and was impressed how well it's held up. As for Rochefort 10, it's definitely closer to Westy 12 than Abt 12.

Oddly enough, I ran across this thread while drinking a Rocherfort 10, and noticing more spice flavor than previously (power of suggestion be damned!).

When all is said and done I go with Abt12 though. Either way they are some of the best beers in the world without question. Just because they've been around the block a few times and are easily available doesn't mean they aren't the biz.
