I will be traveling next week to Rochester NY for work. I am not 100% familiar with the NY offerings. Wondering if there are any must gets and/or go to shops or Craft Beer Bars that I should visit. I will be in town a couple evenings so more than one option is appreciated.

Driving from MI through Canada and back, so I should be able to bring a bunch home too.

    Thanks in advance!

AJs beer warehouse in henrietta will cover almost all your bases for beer to bring home. Some bars may still have some bourbon county on draft next week as well. Old toad has coffee and 2012 on draft and Johnny's Irish Pub will have coffee on tonight.

Beers of the World and AJs are petty to each other in Henrietta'
AJs usually has a shit of local stuff for growlers

Driving from MI thru Ontario to NY ? What's the regulations on driving the beer back thru Ontario? You may want to look into that so your efforts and $ aren't wasted on confiscation at customs. Perhaps the route thru Ohio and tack on the extra hour might be better IMO. Used to make that drive a lot from Buffalo,NY thru Ontario to Michigan State U. 342 miles door to door. Found out my car had governor at 127 mph, lol. But back on track: another vote for Beers of the world. Maybe look at Seekabrew.com to compare what's available in NY. Not the best website but may help.

If you're in the city, go to Nathaniel Square Corner Store, if you're near Henrietta, the aforementioned AJ's will suit you well. Beers of the World is interesting, but not necessarily worth a stop- they're famous for jacked up prices and dusty old IPAs.

For beer bars, you gotta check out The Old Toad in the city, #1 beer place for me. Tap and Mallet in the city is good as well, a little pricey, but they get really interesting kegs. The Owl House, Acme Bar and Pizza, Victoire, and Rochester Taproom are other city bars with good beer. If you venture out in the suburbs at all, Donnelly's in Fairport is amazing- great food, great beer prices, lots of NY locals with a good smattering of other interesting stuff.

For breweries themselves, definitely check out Roc Brewing in the city- tiny little nanobrewery pumping out some decent stuff. The city's oldest brewery, Rohrbach's, has a great brewpub in Greece.

If you end up taking @TurkeyFeathers' advice and going through Buffalo, there's definitely some great places there to check out as well, so let us know.

Thanks for the advice. Interesting that I might be able to find some BCBS on tap. Any bottles laying around?

I will have to take a look at the customs thing, but think i should be covered. Don't plan on bringing back a growler and don't plan on bringing back more than 24 bottles, unless i find some whales.

Although, the Ohio path home is interesting because I could get some fat heads!

Jeesh, and I'm a MSU Spartan along with wife......just noticed your avatar, lol. Go Green ! Btw 13 GD shows and saw one in MI.
As far as bottles of BCBS. Doubtful. I happened upon a GI event last night and stores sold out in 15-20 minutes on Black Friday. Pizza Plant is having a Firestone Walker event in January. I'm sure some good stuff on tap and bottles to go.

Yeah, there's gonna be about 0% chance of finding bottles of BCBS around here, it's mayhem every year, we never get sent enough to meet the demand the area has.

Hit Pizza Boy this pat weekend and they just had the BW and stout hanging out. We get fucked on allotments hard in Rochester, on top of western and upstate NY getting little to no variants.

Rochester is nuts becaues of that stupid facebook group, Flour City Beer Appreciation. That group has gotten so many people into craft and any time something is discussed on there, tons of people run out and hoard everything. Prior to that group getting popular it was pretty easy to get limited release stuff and now it's insane. People just getting into craft are running out and buying 6 bottles of vanilla, cases of stout and coffee. It's ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm still a part of the group but I rarely post anymore. There are some good people there, and the founder, Dave Coniglio, seems like a nice guy, but every single post these days turns into the dumbest argument and flame war, or an incredibly dumb trade proposal. If I have to look at another post about someone trying to trade WWS or 120...

I don't know if that group was all to blame.. I am not there now, but I certainly know people were following lake beverage trucks for the Goose Island/Founders releases and go store to store who not part of that group. People were lining up at Hegedorn's for KBS when it first came to Rochester. My favorite example is a middle aged woman came into the Hess Bushnell Basin looking for KBS. I happened to be there as well for beer and they did have KBS. He was making you buy a 4 pack of Red Rye to get a bottle... This lady was going nuts talking about it must be some sort of trash because she had never heard about. Then she whips out a bell's hopslam out of her pocket and tells us both how rare the hopslam was and how he should trade the KBS for hopslam so she didn't have to buy the Red Rye. I would guess this lady was about in her early fifty's. Both I and I believe the manager/owner did get a good awkward laugh out of it. I happily bought the fresh red rye and my KBS.

Is that MacGregors place worth the trip?

Also - speaking of Founders, any word if you guys will be getting fresh CBS Kegs?

Do not go to macgregors. Dirty beer lines and crazy over priced.

Heard we're getting multiple kegs of CBS

Macgregors in Buffalo area? Went once, one and done for me. Wasn't impressed. Coles in Buffalo has some good draft options and supposed to have good special beers in bottles.
    CBS ?
