Got a couple 11.2oz bottles of Rodenbach (not Grand Cru). They've got a best before date, but not a bottling date. Anyone know how far in the future they are from bottle date?

I want to say five years, but can't be sure.

I found a thread on another site that said 2, which I think feels about right.

Practices might've changed over time. What's it say for best-by? Do you remember when you acquired 'em? Also, where did you find it, because it might be different on an export label. ... I wouldn't've thought of normal Rodenbach as a candidate for aging. I'll try remember to look at something fresh on a shelf the next time I pass by a store; at worst, I can check it out Tuesday when I'll be at a bar that sells a decent volume of it so hopefully it'll be fresh-ish and give a good indication of the best-by lifetime.

If I remembered when I bought them, I'd be even more confident but 2008 seems about right; they're also in an Anchor Holiday 6pack holder from 2007... so it seems plausible. Back of the cellar. Not intentionally saved this long.

I failed in my label-checking duties -- didn't make to the bar as planned on Tuesday, and forgot to look in grocery yesterday. So I'm still trying unless some other local can check easily enough. But I wouldn't be at all shocked if they'd give more than 2 years. Bear with me or even better, someone else will swoop in with the right answer first.

Grocery store fail: they only had cans, with a 2017 best-by. Really, fairly lame.

Woah! Never seen it in cans before but that does lend even more credibility to the 2 year best by date.

No way there they'd shorten the best-by date in brown glass vs. a can. They don't can for the sake of light screening, it's strictly a convenience and possibly slightly downmarket move on their part. I'm not saying that to be unfair, just reporting.

Picked up a bottle recently and the best buy date on the bottom is 2019. That said it wasn't a Grand Cru so perhaps different beers have different aging bandwidth.
