I think the issue wasn't the smoke as much as the label. The label makes one think of sweet dessert (I think there's a prominently placed doughnut somewhere on the label) but it isn't that sweet. Also; it's not a stout.

The Voodoo donut is terrible, I can't imagine the beer would be any good. The cowboy on Chopped was ace though.

I'm with the few who actually liked this beer but found it interesting how split the reviews are. It's not a middle of the road beer at all. People seem to really love or really hate this beer. I opened my first bottle (only bought one at first) with some friends and everyone really seemed to like it. After that, I grabbed 6 more bottles and have since split two more with other groups of friends. Nobody here has hated it yet.

I'm not generally a huge fan of smoked beers but I thought this one worked. The maple really balanced out the smoke.

It's truly a horrible tasting beer if you wanna be frank about it.
But Rogue has some really good offerings too. It's worth trying the Pink Bottle of Death at least once, but it's like burning your hand on the stove. You know not to go near it again!

I enjoy overly smoked beers just the same. I dont really mind the flavor as much as most people. I know some people that say they like smoked beers but still can't handle the stronger ones.

That may be but it just tasted like i was breathing in a campfire smoke. What would you reccomend for some of the stronger rauchbiers?

I shared a bomber of it at a party. A 3 oz. pour was good, lots of smoke. Wouldn't have wanted an entire bottle.

for sure, its definitely the price that's keeping me away. If they even put it oun in 12oz bottles or release liek those XS series Ive seen for around 4 or 5 I would ave tried it.

Yeah, I just caught it as they were being juged on the main course, but he was cool. Ill have to catch it on one of the many re runs they will play.

I picked up a bottle to split among my tasting group. Maybe its the trainwreck curioisty, but I'm curious about this one with the polarizing opinions.

Saw it on chopped last night, haven't had it but I thought the comment "this is the worst thing i've ever tasted" was funny

Didn't like it. It was like licking a salt lick.

It goes around my neighborhood as a "white elephant" gag gift. The few bottles that have been opened and shared were universally despised " Tastes like stale Dead Guy poured over cold pancakes slathered with stale bacon grease"

They redid the label but if you've got HD and a big screen you could clearly read Rogue on the bottle top. I liked when one guy said it tasted like something he'd use to clean rust off his bumper.

I wish I had watched this! I was too busy watching Shark Week! I've bought 3 bottles so far and I'll keep buying them! If you're a bacon lover, you've gotta have it. Yummy, smokey, bacon goodness. Pair it with a Krispy Kreme Chocolate doughnut! It's like heaven. It's cool to see what others are paying for it. It's 9.99 in Georgia where other Rogue's are usually 7.99.

I also seen that episode last night, and I agree it, that beer is just BAD!

I paid $10.59 for my bottle and that the only 1 I'll buy. It's not that bad but it IS a chore to drink and that's not what I'm looking forward to after a hard day at work.

I split the bottle 5 ways with some co workers, I took one sip and nearly spit it out, gave it one more try and barely could get anymore down. If they cut the smokiness by say like 80% it might of been drinkable. I applaud their marketing, people comment on it and buy it a lot at the store I work at. Suckered me in.

I enjoyed it. I didn't find it overly smoky at all, the sweet balanced it nicely. Split one with my neighbor and he enjoyed it as well. Probably will go pick up another one.
