Rogue Voodoo Maple Aging

    I just picked up one of Rogues Maple Bacon Porters. I was actually really surprised to see so many of them still on the shelf. Has anyone had one recently? How's it drinking?

    I'd guess just as poorly as when it came out, if not worse. Can't see time doing that abomination any favors.

    i must be one of the few who liked it, it is not one of the best beers i have ever drank, but not horrible. i would be interested to see how it aged

    Not a Porter, just FYI. Also, I cannot see this beer improving with age.

    I wouldn't chance drinking that beer aged. Nor would I chance drinking it fresh.

    Not a porter and not good. It's like some weird smoked brown ale or something.

    When you first smell it, you think you're gonna be in for some transcendent beer experience. Then you sip it, and quickly realize that your bottle was mistakenly filled with Liquid Smoke.

    It's a 5.5% smoked beer. It smells great, and tastes awful. I only imagine age diminishing the maple smell, and making it a shitty beer all around.

    i enjoyed it fresh, but recently had a 2 month old bottle and the aroma & flavor was significantly diminished. if you didn't care for it fresh, don't bother drinking it aged

    Hmm... Oh well. Worse I can do now is just bite the bullet and find out for myself.

    Easy way to find out:

    1) Make a fire
    2) Fry some bacon and eat it, but leave the grease sitting around until it goes rancid.
    3) Mix remnants of 1 with 2, then age.

    I imagine that would be pretty close.

    It's amazing how many people I know outside BeerAdvocate honestly love this beer. I know several beer stores that pimp this bottle and it's gone in minutes

    I'll admit it. Due to the delicious sounding name, when it first came out, I really want to try this beer. Aged, fresh, anyway I could get it. But thanks to lack of money and an unwillingness to pay shipping charges, I never tried it. Now, I'm kind of glad I didn't.

    If it gets distributed at an easily accessible shop near me, I might still buy a bottle to try, but I'm not going out of my way.

    Btw, JCDenver, I love the Black Metal.
