Does it seem a little more oniony to you now that it is in can? I does to me. Still fairly drinkable, but not as great as I remember from last year's Bomber offering. Your thoughts please...

Where can this be found in OKC? I'm having the hardest time.

Never got around to trying it last year. Really hate to say it, but kinda tired of paying premium for lackluster to bad local beer here in Oklahoma. Call me a traitor or whatever, but there's a lot of sub-par beer on the shelves OK-wise, and a lot of it seems to stem from quality/inconsistency issues.

The only Oklahoma beers I wasn't really a fan of were Elevator Wheat from COOP (too bubblegummy) and Uroboros from Anthem, because it was just trying too hard to be Bomb! But lackluster to bad? That's a pretty intense exaggeration.

I like the Hoptometrist in the can very much. Onion never came to my mind. Hopefully it doesn't next time I drink one!

in what way is Uroboros trying to be bomb? Bomb is a totally different beer.... unless you think all stouts are trying to be bomb?

Last time I had it, it tasted like a not as good Bomb! Haven't had it again. Maybe I need to reevaluate.

You do know that uroboros does not have vanilla beans, coffee, chili peppers, cocoa nibs or rye in it right?

I dont intend to sound condescending, its just those two beers are completely different.

I think you should give Uroboros another shot and approach it without any thought of Bomb! in your mind. Not all Imp. Stouts set out to achieve the same goals. I actually think Uroboros is one of the premier OK. beers these days (read my review). Also, I never said Uroboros was bad, so I'm not sure where you got that or even how we got on that particular beer, as the OP is about Hoptometrist.

Anyway, I was simply trying to say that there are some quality issues on the shelves that need to be taken care of, and some of the breweries out there are putting out some pretty dull/sub-par brew, and that doesn't help anybody. It'll all come out in the wash at some point though.

I think your right, the correction will come with time. I dont think any of the makers of the beers want their beers to taste dull... while some are made with the intention to taste the way they do, and some are dull, not gonna drop names but I wouldent argue that. Most if not all Oklahoma breweries are growing at a rapid rate and with growth, often times comes some "short cuts" or mistakes. Id just say give it time, cause Oklahoma has some really talent brewers!

Hopefully I didn't plant that seed. I just don't recall that flavor when it was in Bombers. I had some stress on some other issues, so maybe it was messing with my taste buds???

To me, the Uroboros seemed like dialed down Dark Truth or if you don't like that analogy, more of a Belgian Stout if you will...

I had a couple bombers last year and do not remember there being any onion present. This year's batch is what I remember from last year, but it seems to have a slightly cleaner finish.

Just tried my first one and wondering what the heck I was waiting for. Excellent DIPA for sure. Didn't get any onion here either. Maybe an off-batch or you had some leftovers from dinner in your beard Russ...I have that problem from time to time lol. And no, I don't know if you have a beard or not, but just guessing:slight_smile:

No beard, the wife gets a bit frosty when I don't shave.. Had one last night & didn't get onion, must've been the stress of earlier this week ( that's in the rearview mirror )...
