Apparently Row 34's Portsmouth location is opening today at 5pm. Anyone going? I haven't seen a tentative taplist anywhere, intrigued to see what they do with NH's limited sour offerings. I'm guessing they'll be heavy local.
I'll be the first to wish them luck for success with food and beer, we could certainly use it. Looking at their draft list online for Boston, I would wager that maybe 30% of their options have ever been served/approved in NH before.
That would be very surprising. As far as I know, Cantillon has never been sold in NH before, so it would need to be approved first. I don't believe Shelton Brothers have been licensed in NH either.
I'll check today on my break if I can. I live in town and actually have no idea where it is. I think down by the hotels.
Taplist is online. It's not nearly as ambitious as Boston's Row 34 outlet, but it's not bad. http://row34nh.com/#menu http://row34nh.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/052515-Beer.pdf
I'd say that's better than not bad, instantly one of the best beer lists in Portsmouth if not all of NH.
I'm not a regular visitor of Portsmouth, but Whym seems to have a pretty decent beer list that's not too far off from Row 34. http://www.taplister.com/bars/whym-craft-beer-cafe/51980262498e19a0c53d8bb4/
WHYM was the other bar that I thought of first and my comment certainly wasn't a slam on them. They do have great small list. The problem with NH is available options for any bar. I was just saying that comparing to the best of NY, MA, ME, or VT isn't fair because of the limited distribution available.
It's true. We cross the bridge into Kittery and usually end up at the Birch. Their list is the best on the Seacoast aside from Nick and YRL. Portland offers a whole other grab bag or good bars.
Wow. Didn't even know this was in the works, but I moved out of downtown four years ago, so I miss a lot of openings . I will definitely pop in soon and report back. Draft list looks good, but many bars in town have stepped up their game in the past year, so there are a lot of establishments serving quality beers across the board and also going after the coveted "rare NH kegs" (e.g., KBS, BA Firestone Walker, Allagash sours). WHYM is my local haunt because it's closer to home and is packed with regulars and not so many demanding tourists. That aside, I have heard great things about Row 34 in Fort Point, so I am eager to check out the new location in Portsmouth.
